I went and saw Pacific Rim at Loews last night.
First, Bar Louie seems to have shrunk their glasses. It's been a tradition of mine and some friends to go there for $3 draft happy hour before movies on opening night. I'm not sure it was even 12oz, definitely not a pint.
I bought my ticket via Fandango online just in case it was crowded/long line/etc. I went to a 2D showing and there was a fairly small crowd for an opening night. But to be honest, the tv spots say it "opens" today, that was just a late preview. There was also the IMAX 3D and digital 3D presentations going on at the same time.
It was pretty cool! It took bits and pieces of the movies that have been hits over the last few years and used the best ones to its advantage. Some of the concepts they used were kind of original and were interesting.
The characters were a bit more multidimensional than they could've been and it was cool to hear Idris Elba speak in his normal [British] accent.
My only "gripe" is that I wish they would've given a few basic rules, like Terminator's time travel rules (no moving parts or complex chemicals), as to what could and couldn't kill a kaiju. It wouldve helped their movie logic. I'm not sure why I had trouble buying some of the ideas - must've been the smaller glasses at Bar Louie.
I'd say it seems pretty kid friendly too in case you're wondering. 5 is probably the lowest age I'd take in.
