Rossi has the deal as a one-way deal...

On Wednesday, Ray Shero addressed a need for a bottom-six winger by agreeing to a one-year deal with forward Matt D'Agostini. That deal was a one-way contract that will count $550,000 against the cap.

Even with a 1 way deal, it's at the league minimum. Still a good move.

I was surprised to find D'Agostini has 5 regular season fights along with 4 preseason fights.
2010:
Boyle (L) -Boyle jumped him along the wall
Fraser (L) -Fraser handled him pretty well
2011:
Barker (W) -Barker jumps him along the wall
Sbisa (W) -Right after a faceoff
2012:
Torres (L) -D'Agostini crushes a PHO Player and Torres jumps him

Yeah it's literally the definition of a low risk to no risk move. 1 year at the league minimum. If he works out great, if he stinks... it's not like he's signed long term to big money.

I don't see how anyone could not think this is a great move. basically for that price if the guy scores 5 goals I will be happy. 110,000 per goal? works for me. :) also, he has put up a few points before so at this price there is pretty much nothing but upside.

Do you hunt my posts just to disagree? Why not just foe me?

Like I said, It has good potential, but if he is a total bust (like ET), that is a half mil we could maybe use on someone else.

I understand your point. D'Agostini wasn't what most of us were looking for as a 3rd line winger. I would have rather signed someone with some grit...It seems like Shero is going with 3 scoring lines and 1 checking/grinding line...

I have no idea what you're talking about. This is probably the first time I've replied to one of your posts in like 3 months. Chill aht.

If we couldve used it elsewhere, where would we have used it? We only had like $600k left in cap space.

If we're worried about half a million, we have some serious problems.

Low risk, high reward possibility. That half a million spent here won't guarantee us anything anywhere else.

I like the move, let's see if he can find the scoring touch he had only a short time ago. The scoring touch he found was under Davis Payne, who is completely different coach than Hitchcock who took over for Payne. Hitchcock is defense first, we all know that....we also all know that Bylsma is NOT a defensive first coach, so maybe D'Agostini finds it again under DB? He also had his best season while playing top 6 minutes with the better players on the team. Maybe, just maybe he finds some crazy chemistry with Crosby or Malkin ala Andy Hilbert? I'm pretty sure 71 and 87 are much better players than anyone he played with in St. Louis.

I'll remain optimistic on the move until proven wrong. I won't hold my breath that he's the second coming of Marty St. Louis, but he might still be an effective player for league minimum. If not, I won't lose sleep over it either.

I have no idea where we could use it. I don't even know who is left. I don't know if Shero is done and this is the team. It may turn out to be a great move. The only downside is if he is a bust, which is possible.

BTW: I hope it turns out to be a great move and he scores 20+ goals and 50 points. We need some of these low paid guy to step up.

If you're expecting 20 goals and 50 points, he'll be a bust before the season even starts.

Since his deal is for the minimum, can't they put him in the AHL and it won't count against the cap? They're just on the hook for the full amount while he's down there.

It's possible. In 10-11 season with St Louis, he had 21 goals and 25 assists. Also, pretty sure it is a one way contract, which means the half mil is counted against the cap.

What are we talking about here...?

I don't like D'Agostini as a player, but there's nothing wrong with the move...one-way, two-way, three-way, $500K, $550K, $800K, who cares...

If we send him down, we still have to pay him the real dollars ($550K) but he does not count against the cap (Salary - up to $900K savings for burying a player, in this case = $0).

No risk (unless you guys wanted to see one of our 50 contract spots go some place better, in which case I'm all ears in our cap situation), potential for a modest reward. Nothing to it on that front.

This is not a low risk/high reward move. Its just a depth move. Its too cheap to be terrible and hes not good enough for it to be great. Hopefully he can contribute to the bottom 6.

He will be fighting Connor and Zolnierczyk for a roster spot. All make minimum. Can probably add Jeffrey into that mix too.

pens can afford to pay a one-way deal under $925K with no cap hit in WBS so if he stinks its not a problem.

But Shero needs to upgrade bottom six sooner or later, because lineup of (except Sutter and Bennett) D'Agostini, Jeffrey, Zolnierczyk,
Adams, Vitale, Glass in bottom lines is awful to me,too small,no grit, almost no physicality..

This team is plenty physical. Besides, wasn't Chicago nearly last in hits last year?

Drastic roster changes throughout the season usually work out for the better, right?
