Cole is making the case to send him down for a couple weeks easy.

He's shown he can put together dominant stretches of innings but he has yet to have a start where he didn't have one bad inning to ruin the party. Every outing it seems he gives up 2-3 runs in the first and settles in the rest of the game, or throws 6 scoreless before giving up 2-3 runs in the 7th. I'm not sure whether that means another stint in AAA is just what he needs or would just be a waste of time.

What I like about G Cole's game is his will. He doesn't give in or up with runs / guys on base. He battles through games.

Dan Zangrilli ‏@DanZangrilli 16h
Clint Barmes, part of leadership council for Bucs, said if asked by mgmt, he would suggest standing pat with 25 guys in clubhouse now. Barmes said he hasn't (and doesn't expect to be) asked by mgmt., but acknowledged chemistry at deadline last year was disrupted. Say what you want about Barmes' performance. Numbers speak for themselves. But his opinion(s), professionalism respected by team.

Sounds like he is more concerned with keeping his job if you ask me...

I'd have let Cole bat. He's done more in his limited at bats than Inge has this year.

This only makes me hate him more. It's one thing if you say we should stand pat and you're Andrew McCutchen, but when you are the epitome of offensive suckitude on this team and you suggest we don't need to improve offensively...geez.

This team needs to upgrade so many bench players it's crazy. Inge, Barmes, Snider, McKenry, and Sanchez are pitiful.

You can't help but think a trade or two has to be coming. The pirates know this might be there one in a million shot here.

I read an article today that said that big guns will be hard to come by and therefore very expensive. But, this team could greatly improve its chances with two or three reasonable upgrades to back-up/platoon players.

They need a shortshop, Jordy Mercer is playing well enough to be a good backup, but if the Pirates really want to go after it, they need somebody better who can start.

IDK. I think we need one huge acquisition at least. I don't trust Tabata yet and Jones/Sanchez are both absolutely pathetic. Somebody who could really lock down one of those positions would be really welcome. I'd definitely like to see moves for bench players too but it's not our only problem. We're only concerned with the bench sucking so much right now because we're getting no production from the starters either.

They'll have to give up to much for a rental or a player they won't be willing to pay going forward. I don't see it happening. There are too many holes and not enough of a supporting cast for one guy to make a big difference.
