Right now this is a fun, exciting regular season team.

Same could have been said about the 09 team. Fleury's ability to rebound will be the key.

To me, the 09 team was bigger and tougher to play against with guys like Rupp, Guerin, Staal, Cooke and a younger Orpik. I do agree with MAF being a big key\question mark for this team.

Rupp wasn't on the team in 09

According to this he was.

Yeah, signed July 2009. After we won the Cup in June 2009.

Unless I'm misinterpreting the original use of "09 team". I assumed it was referring to the 2008-2009 team that won the cup.

Yeah, got me. Just another senior moment, forgot when we got him, but I still say the 09 team was tougher to play against than this team. Time will tell.

Look out for his sister:

From the Vancouver Sun’s Steve Ewen:

Apparently Sidney Crosby is an underdog in mixed doubles ping-pong.

Crosby and Meaghan Mikkelson of the Canadian women’s hockey team lost 4-3 to his teammate Shea Weber and her teammate Rebecca Johnston in a heated table tennis tilt at the athletes village earlier this week.

Crosby and Mikkelson had a 3-0 lead at one point.

“We want to play them again,” demanded Mikkelson.

Jagr to the Devils.

Wake up RS. He'd play here for league minimum, he owes it to Mario!

I don't think he would play for league minimum (he needs the money). Jagr's major contribution to the Bruins in our series was the uncalled series-changing hooking penalty that was missed by the ref's seeing-eye dog. I could be wrong, but I don't see him fitting in here any more.

from a 2009 article:

Jaromir Jagr wrote:I was thinking about it and if Mario would call me and say, ‘I’d like you to play for our team,’ I would think about it a lot,” Jagr said in a telephone interview from Moscow where the Kontinental League will hold its inaugural All-Star Game outdoors at Red Square Saturday. “I would play for the minimum salary. I would play for $350,000 just for him because I owe him my hockey life. I want to pay him back because he has made me what I am…besides my parents.”

He had one shot to repair his relationship with the Pens and the fans of Pittsburgh. 2011 was that chance.......but instead signed with the Flyers. To this day I hate that I bought into it all and swallowed my hatred for him and was all giddy thinking about his return.

I honestly think Jagr was ready to sign with the pens in 2011...but Holmgren (i.e. the puppet of the evil Ed Snider) jumped in with some cap room and real need for Jagr (to help mentor Giroux and Voracek) and offered him a number WAY higher than he was seeing from Detroit or Pittsburgh. It's the way Philly has pretty much forced themselves to do business now though. Sans homegrown players, they pretty much have to (and are seemingly willing to) pay max price to get a free agent.

The whole "play for league min" thing was never realistic. If you were in his shoes two years ago...what would've you done? Teams A and B are offering about $2,000,000...then team C jumps in and says $3,400,000. You'd probably sign with team C too.

Jagr saw no number from Pittsburgh. I don't understand how people think he was given any offer by Pittsburgh. Its very plainly out there that Pittsburgh did not present him with any opportunity to sign at all.

Really? I must've missed that. I was opperating (all this time) under the impression that Shero pulled an actual offer. Did Detroit make a real offer?

Jagr was never coming here. He takes the offer that pays him the most, and that was never going to be us.

Thats probably true, but lets not pretend that Shero ever had any intention of signing him either. Posturing for the Pens fans who wanted him back. #gamblingproblems

I thought the offer was pulled just before noon on UFA day -- almost 12 hours after free agency started. No?
