Canada does not have that standout goalie like they used to, anymore.

Weird that Brodeur won't be there.

What do you guys say the odds of them making the team are?

I say:
Crosby 100% (barring injury)
Letang 70%
Neal 10%
Kunitz .001%

I do not believe this excludes players. Marty or Fleury could still be invited to the final roster if they came out of the gates flying.

Crosby and Letang are almost definitely going to be there. I don't really expect either of the other two to go.

Probably, but I'm guessing its an indication of "right now you aren't in our top 5 goalies."

So at the very least he'd have to pass up 3 players (maybe 4 with Brodeur)

I would be surprised if Letang made the roster as a starter.. maybe as a reserve.

Doughty-Weber
Keith-Seabrook
Pietrangelo-M. Staal
Subban

Letang

Subban can do everything Letang does and he actually plays defense.. so kind of makes that selection redundant. He also has a pest side to his game which is lacking with any other player on the back end.

Crosby will be 1st line center and Captain, the rest won't make the team.. just too deep.

St. Louis-Crosby-Stamkos
Nash-Tavares-Giroux
E. Staal-Toews-Perry
Bergeron-Getzlaf-M. Richards
Duchene, Hall

In the olympics they dress 20 skaters (although IIRC, in 2010 Babcock basically only played 18)

I think Kunitz has a better shot over Neal.

Kunitz can play the bottom-6 and can penalty kill. No need in rolling out 4 all-star, offensive lines.

Full camp roster if you care

Goalies: Corey Crawford, Braden Holtby, Roberto Luongo, Carey Price, Mike Smith

Defensemen: Karl Alzner, Jay Bouwmeester, Dan Boyle, Drew Doughty, Mike Green, Dan Hamhuis, Travis Hamonic, Duncan Keith, Kris Letang, Marc Methot, Dion Phaneuf, Alex Pietrangelo, Brent Seabrook, Marc Staal, PK Subban, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Shea Weber.

Forwards: Patrice Bergeron, Jeff Carter, Logan Couture, Sidney Crosby, Matt Duchene, Jordan Eberle Ryan Getzlaf, Claude Giroux, Taylor Hall, Chris Kunitz, Andrew Ladd, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Rick Nash, James Neal, Corey Perry, Mike Richards, Patrick Sharp, Eric Staal, Jordan Staal, Martin St. Louis, Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Toews,

Also the article's surprises on both sides according to them

As always, there are surprise invites and surprise non-invites. (In the former category, Alzner, Hamonic, and Methot may have raised some eyebrows. In the latter, what about Jamie Benn, Jason Spezza, Evander Kane, Cam Ward, Francois Beauchemin, Dan Girardi and Patrick Marleau?)

Also worth noting, of the five goalies on the camp roster, only Luongo was on the 2010 gold medal-winning team; neither Martin Brodeur nor Marc-Andre Fleury were invited.

Chicago leads all NHL teams with five players invited to camp, followed by Pittsburgh and San Jose with four:

5 – Chicago
4 – Pittsburgh, San Jose
3 – Boston, Los Angeles, Washington
2– Anaheim, Carolina, Edmonton, Montreal, N.Y. Islanders, N.Y. Rangers, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Vancouver

It would be pretty awesome if they rolled out a line of Bergeron, Toews, Richards. That would be their "checking" line in that it has 3 very high level defensive forwards.

Lots of guys fit that profile in the players listed as invited to orientation. Small number of those players have a release like James Neal.

Large number can create a lot better than him 1 on 1.

Neal has an elite release, but his skating, defense and physical play are not up to snuff for this team. Especially considering that a bigger ice surface will put an emphasis on speed and skating ability, I don't think he makes the team.

Sunshine getting an invite to the US camp is a little surprsing, but given that Shero is assistant GM, maybe it shouldn't be. He obviously won't make the team barring something miraculous in the first half of the season, but it is good to geti him into the camp and get him some experience.
