Spoiler:
A year ago we have a pretty interesting thread (at least I thought).

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=58965&hilit=+athlete

I tallied up the votes for that, and last year LGP voted (5 pts for 1st place, 4 pts for 2nd place, etc..):

Parentheses for 1st place votes

Sidney Crosby = 55 (8)
Troy Polamalu = 38 (2)
Evgeni Malkin = 37 (1)
Andrew McCutchen = 36 (1)
James Harrison = 11 (1)
Marc Andre Fleury = 10 (1)
Mike Wallace = 10
Antonio Brown = 8 (1)
Ben Roethlisberger = 7
Lamar Woodley = 4
Lawrence Timmons = 4
James McDonald = 2
Ray Graham = 1
Kris Letang = 1

Curious how the votes will change

What do you guys say? Who are the top 5 Pittsburgh athletes?

Harrison, Fleury, and Wallace fall off the list completely. As does McDonald and Graham. Woodley and Timmons are likely off, but may have 1 believer. Brown loses his 1st place vote.

Crosby retains first, Cutch 2nd, Malkin and Polamalu swap. From there its a crapshoot.

What is the definition of 'athlete'? Are you talking about sheer athleticism or just athlete in player and their importance to their team?

Got debated last year too. Rate it how you like really. I did it as far as best "player," seems to be most common (hence the ben votes)

got to go for best player in their respective sport. otherwise its an exercise in futility.

also, honorable mention to two guys who shoudl still be in pittsburgh: Rushel Shell and Steven Adams.

I wonder if this poll was done more in the fall/winter, if there would be more Steelers and less Pirates?

That's all I have. Not sure how the top two would be anything but Crosby and Malkin. Cutch needs to win some awards (prove he is at or near the top of baseball) to approach the other two.

Last year, done in the summer, had 7 Steelers and 2 Pirates. I think its more the most recent play of both teams

I know people hate Roethlisberger, but come on. Dude was having a fantastic season last year, and has won two Super Bowls in the last seven years. And with the way he just shrugs off countless sacks and makes plays, he has to be a Top 5 Pittsburgh athlete, easily.
