What market niche were they filling?
It seemed like people just went there for dessert.

It's an eat'n park with beer. It was one of like 3 places in squirrel hill where you can get a beer and watch a game.

My girlfriend in college worked there, seemed like getting stiffed by CMU students was a common complaint...so I guess CMU was a large part of the business.

That's true: the only time I went to the one in Sq Hill was because we could get a drink there.

Gullifty's was a classic wood, brass and fern bar/restaurant in the '70's when it opened. The seventies had a thing with brass, wood and macrame plant hangers. I haven't been in the Sq. Hill location in decades, so I'm guessing they 86'd the brass and plant hangers....lol!!!

Gullifty’s at one point in time was known for its food, but the quality of everything but the desserts dropped over time. For at least the last 10 years or so the desserts were pretty much the only reason to ever go there.

Finally went to Stack'd in Shadyside. While the burger was quite good, and they have a nice beer selection, everything else was meh. Although we didn't have the pierogies, they did look good.

Oh, and I had a Bell's Oberon. :P

Green Forest in Penn Hills was again meatacularly meatnificent. Did miss the slab bacon, though, and the lemon sorbet in the lemon shell was too zesty, but overall very good.

Don't know if this means Smoke will have 2 locations, or that the Homestead location will close.

Oh man. That place was hipster-central on peak hours when it was in good ol' Homestead. It will be unbearable in L-ville. Here's hoping they keep Homestead, and open L-ville, which attracks the hipster doofuses like a moths to a flame.

Papa John's buffalo chicken pizza is a big bunch of fail. When I think buffalo chicken, I think of two different things: buffalo sauce and chicken. Who was the genius that decided that buffalo chicken included ONIONS? Even worse, they threw in some awful tasting ranch sauce that was mixed into the pizza. One slice and i'm done with it.

I'm tired of being screwed on things I order this weekend. :(

I actually like this one. Not as much as Franks in the North Hills, but I think it tastes pretty good for corporate pizza.

In regards to buffalo chicken pizza, I prefer ranch sauce. The hot sauce needs to be there, but when the hot sauce is the pizza sauce, it's nasty... It's like drinking a bottle of red hot.

I haven't had Papa John's though so can't comment on it specifically.

My ideal is ranch sauce, chicken tossed in buffalo sauce, cheese.

when I make buffalo chicken pizza, I use the franks wing sauce, and just lightly coat the dough, then toss the chicken in it. Then the chicken goes down, and cheese covers it up. deeeelish

The buffalo sauce was spiraled over the pizza, so it wasn't even the core of the sauce. I'm still not sure what the actual sauce was. I was more put off by all of the damn onions and whatever sloppy mess that was the ranch sauce.

mac gets it. When there is a buffalo chicken pizza, it should either be a light coating of franks on either the crust or maybe on the chicken itself.

I blame peyton manning for this. I saw him advertising the buy one for $15 and you get one free. Being that I was away for the majority of the weekend and haven't gone grocery shopping yet, I got suckered in by the ad on the website. Buffalo chicken...you would think it's buffalo and chicken, right? On the upside, I did get a free pizza by ordering online. I guess I can use that to correct the mess that happened yesterday.

Had olympos gyro for lunch in McKees rocks (Robinson area). I love this place. The pita is always fresh and warm, and their selection of different flavored tzatziki sauces is great. I like the ranch, spicy, and teriyaki styles.
