I can't decide if I want to deal with the inevitable early-adopter "I can't unlock my iPhone since the stupid fingerprint detector doesn't work" hassles.

Cheap plastic instead of fancy glass for one. Maybe they skimp on other components, speaker, etc. The specs (processing, etc) are what is near identical.

5s has the fingerprint thing, A7 chip and a better camera than the 5c. The 5c is a 5 in colorful plastic.

The fingerprint reader feature is optional, from what I've seen. You can still just enter your passcode as usual.

Considering that I just want the 5 at a lower cost than it is now, sounds perfect.

If people would go back to blackberry, i'd be thrilled to use it. No one is going to use it though.

I say that in 2013!!! Blackberry has been far and away my favorite brand of smartphone. The Battery life was always the best. It did email better than anyone.

What i want in a phone:
-Call quality
-Text
-Email
-Twitter
-Pandora

Blackberry does this in spades

I did go to my cell phone providers' store today and after talking to them and seeing all there was and what i want in a phone, i have come down to either the iphone or blackberry.

I still don't know which i want. I wanna see what this new iphone is like before i make a decision.

For the corporate world I would think Blackberry would still be a go to device, especially for corporate email.

I can't even fathom wanting to play games and visit facebook on a phone. That's just weird to me...

Only beneficial if you want super control over your employees' email access. Otherwise, it's worse than pretty much every other phone in that regard. And there are more options these days for securing phones.

It's good to see that we're fully entering the world of commidity smart phones. I don't care what it looks like, as long as it does what I need.

That's what i love. Something that works.

You know what doesn't work? My HTC droid phone. Yeah, it has every bell and whistle available but it sucks.

-Apps bog down memory
-Battery stinks
-Glitchy and randomly crashes all the time
-Apps can't be deactivated and when they are, they reactivate in the background and murder my battery.

I hate this phone...

Fun Cell carrier math:

Add a 5C 16 GB to a Verizon Share everything plan and then cancel after 1 month:

$199 2 year contract price + $350 ETF + $40 service = $589

Full retail price is $649

Same with the 5C, just $100 cheaper all together.

Seems like you would be better off even breaking the total up into 3 or 4 chunks to still be at or below full retail. But after 3 months of service you start losing money.

VZW also lets you do a 1-year repayment with a $2 charge and not extending your contract. 5S would be $56/month and 5C would be $48/month

the cheaper iphones are better to buy the phone outright. the 64 gb actually is cheaper to go with the contract by about 20 bucks over the life of the phone.

I don't understand the argument being made here. How does it save you money? You mean if you just want to have the phone without service? Why would you do that?

The 5C has an A6 processor
The 5S has a faster A7 processor

You would already be a customer for Verizon. You can add a line, get promotional pricing and then cancel the line, pay the ETF, keep the phone and it would be cheaper than buying outright.

You would want to do this if you A) weren't up for a discount and can't wait or B) don't want a contract and would be looking at going full retail anyways, this would save you some money.

Oh ok. So like my mom has a plan and I want the phone. Just add that line on her plan, cancel it, then give her the $550 or whatever rather than $650. Makes sense.

Yup but chances are if you have scrapped together $550 for a phone then finding another $100 doesn't seem too hard to do.
