This is 40 was good for a few laughs, but the characters you were supposed to root for were a cyclist and Leslie Mann. Not sure how I was expected to care what happened to them.

I looked for Star Trek Into Darkness discussion, but the search didn't turn anything up.

Spoiler:
What in the world? I can only think of a handful of films that throw such a wrench into the story half way thru. The first half was really cool, seemed like a good set up for something. Then the second half was a rehash of Wrath of Khan. I guess I'm glad I didn't pay any attention to anything and saw that as a surprise, but whoa. It seemed pretty good to me overall, but I wish they'd have gone a more original direction in the 2nd half.

This has to be a first - a rebooted franchise that remakes a classic film.

Sound pioneer Ray Dolby of Dolby Laboratories dies at 80 :(
Ray Dolby, the inventor and engineer who founded Dolby Laboratories and pioneered noise-reducing and surround-sound technology widely used in the film and recording industries, has died in San Francisco at 80, the company announced Thursday.

Dolby had been living with Alzheimer's disease in recent years and was diagnosed in July with acute leukemia, the company said.

Remembering Ray Dolby (from the Dolby Labs website)

Movies are more enjoyable because of the work and ingenuity of people like this.

Haven't seen that many, but i love Manhattan and Annie Hall (one could argue they're basically the same movies with different people), Everything You Wanted to Know about Sex was smartcampysolid, Sleeper was ok for an earlier piece where he was working the style and trying to be preachy.

So, I've been writing movie reviews on a website, and someone on a much larger more legitimate website was sent a screener of something called The Leaf Blower Massacre. She decided to pass on it because it was so bad. I told her to send it my way.

It arrived in the mail today. It's bad. Really bad. It's not even a proper movie. It's a 12 minute short. This of course removes any context to point to if they were going for funny bad or not. I guess in the end, it's a moot point since it's not really funny.

The challenge for me will be finding enough things to talk about from a 12 minute short. It should be a fun challenge.

I'd say hit or miss more recently, love just about all his older stuff. Recently, I think Midnight in Paris is one of his best. I think Sleeper is my favorite. looking forward to Blue Jasmine

"In A World..." is a good, funny movie worth checking out. It's only playing at the Manor Theatre is Squirrel Hill though for some reason.

Woodster was a brilliant writer and comedian before turning to a career making overrated 'films'.

And it could have been. It came so close but it just didn't have any cohesiveness and threw "twists" in like they're candy. I say twists in quotes because IMO a twist needs to make sense and none of the ones in this movie did. Then the ending wrapped nothing up in fact it was just like "hey we've hit an hour and a halfish OH GOD WE NEED TO END THIS."

This to a T. I wanted to like it, but in the end felt like I was just cheated out of what could have been something fun.
