Group 1 is also the 20 player roster going tomorrow night so makes sense from that standpoint.

But yes, I'd say you could also read it that way. I think you could argue that some guys (maybe vitale or even Z) have a spot and it's up to others (Kobasew or Glass) to win them back. But I would bet money on the first.

Replace Engelland with Maata, and I am confident in rolling that roster out for Game 1.

I'd assume group 1 is just the lineup for tomorrow. I would have to assume Vitale and Martin are in.

C - Crosby, Malkin, Sutter, Jeffrey, Vitale
LW - Kunitz, Jokinen, Bennett, Glass
RW - Dupuis, Neal, Adams
D - Martin, Scuderi, Letang, Orpik, Niskanen, Bortuzzo
G - Fleury, Zatkoff

Last 3 Spots:
F - D'Agostini, Kobasew, Zolnierczyk (1-2 make it)
D - Despres, Engelland (1-2 make it)

I'm assuming Kobasew will be signed, Despres will make the team (possibly send down day 1 to get Vokoun on LTIR), Zolnierczyk will be sent down, and one of Engelland or D'agostini makes it with the other waived.

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Jokinen-Malkin-Neal
Bennett-Sutter-Kobasew
Glass-Jeffrey-Adams
Martin-Orpik
Scuderi-Letang
Niskanen-Bortuzzo
X - Vitale, Despres, Engelland

My guess for opening night roster.

D'agostini will either go on IR or will be sent down through waivers

I'll go with that minus Despres. Pens aren't going to carry 8 Dman up on the team. Many comments towards that over the past year.

This is so interesting to me...

How can you look at these younger, hungrier guys like Sill, Ebbett, etc and still play Glass & Adams over these guys? Having 1 adams is okay, but Glass is just a joke. Just buy that scrub out and give one of these other guys a chance.

Ebbett isn't a young guy, and you can't buy someone out until next offseason.

Aside from Ebbett, I agree with you. I love Shero, but signing Adams for another two years is a pathetic joke. Give me Harry Z over Glass anyday of the week. At least he'll hit the crap out of people and be a pest, which is something we lack. I love HZ's speed and tenacity and sadly we're going to be stuck with Glass and Adams and his 40% faceoff rate and absolute zero offensive talent. I don't expect our 4th liners to score at a decent clip, but it would be nice if they could pump one every so often and at least just grind and keep the puck out of our end. Putting Glass with Adams basically eliminates any chance of EVER scoring in 82 games, and yet it's not even like they're a physical, fast, intimidating bunch.

I'm sorry, just my feelings. I don't like those two together. I appreciate Adams' warrior type play, but not for another two years. I'm just of the belief that we could have found a younger, faster guy to do the same job, at probably the same level, and might actually be able to have a faceoff % above 42% or whatever he is. Maybe if Adams was platooning, but with DB you know he'll be out there every night.

Never said I should be. I love the job Shero has done, but the Adams signing was probably my least favorite move out of all his moves.

I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have an opinion.

That's also the same type of unfigureoutable love for Byslma that I can't even begin to comprehend, get a new team because I don't like the coach?

If you have a young 4th line and hope to have Adams be a 13th forward then hi being here for two more years is good. But him and Glass comprising a majority of a line is just horrible.

You still get $950K or so of cap release sending Glass down. Just do it. Kobasew is better in every facet of the game.

Agreed. And I'm not really harping on the Adams issue, I was just stating I didn't like the signing. By no means am I saying we're no longer Cup Contenders because of the Adams signing, everyone knows it's because of Fleury and Bylsma. :D

Funny thing, you demote Jeffrey and glass and keep 12 forwards we are about $95k over the cap. Adams makes $700k. You could have Ebbett or D'Agostini/Kobasew added and be under the cal and still keep Nisky and Despres and not risk Engellend. Bortuzzo on waivers and carry 8 defense for now.

Overpaid to keep Adams it appears. Amazing that $150k is going to cause a tough decision.

I like Adams but I don't like the fact that he never, ever, ever is a healthy scratch.

I'm a firm believer that your 4th line has to have an identity. Big and tough? Small but speedy and agitating? It's got to make sense as a line.

Harry Z, Vitale, Kobasew/Glass/Sill in some combo gives you a decent line. Adams on the ice 5-on-5 just destroys the line no matter who else is on it.
