It's just "who's the best player in the league," forward looking.

I think Stamkos and Toews should be switched. Just MHO.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd take Letang over Karlsson for his all-around game.

I don't know, I think Karlsson is just freaking amazing. I think the only advantage Letang has over him is physicality. Even then, that makes Karlsson a much more durable player besides for one freak incident.

Yeah, not sure Letang's D game is much better than Karlsson's. Sure, it's better, but I don't think that margin of better-ness is enough to put him over Karlsson.

Letang's game isnt completely negated by getting to him a few times below his bet, id prefer him for sure.

Toews is good, but I've never watched him and thought he was 3rd best player in the league good. I think he's way too high. And I'd take Hossa over a few of those listed about him.

I maintain Hossa is (and has been) the most underrated player in the league since his days in Ottawa.

Patrice Bergeron's underratedness is so overrated that he is now overrated.

Haha definitely agree on Bergeron. I constantly think Hossa is going to suddenly be appreciated for how good he is, but it never happens haha.

Giroux too high and Perry too low. I actually think Perry is the better player of the two. Perry gets the points and the PIMs.
And Tavarez should be top 5.

I like Subban a bit better. He's in your face and getting under your skin all game long. Plus, he puts up just as many points.

When Letang decides to actually not be an idiot his defensive game it superb. If he had more confidence with the puck on offense and could anticipate the play better he could be the best defensemen in the NHL.

Exactly. And On a 2 and 1 with scuderi or orpik- never pass the puck.

Most of Subban's points are on the power play. He tied Emelin for his team lead in scoring at even strength among defenseman with 12 points. Emelin played 4 less games. Combine that with Montreal having 30 more minutes of power play time than the team with the second most power play time (Detroit). Montreal also had 62 more minutes of power play time than Pittsburgh and Subban's points last season look more and more suspect and unlikely to continue to be in league leader territory (although that team does dive a lot). He had zero business winning the Norris. Paul Martin who played 8 less games had more even strength points than Mr. Norris. Heck Chris Phillips had more even strength points than him. Montreal was 3rd in the league in scoring so it's not like he wasn't out there for goals, he just didn't contribute to them.
Subban is far down the list of guys I would pick to be my top defenseman. He's a power play specialist who acts like a horses rear end.

Surprised to see Mr. Hart Trophy Ovechkin not in the top 5.
And a very minor point, but what exactly has Alex Pietrangelo done to get him up to #30? I'd take almost anyone else listed from 31-50 If I was doing a draft of all players to start a new NHL team.

in a ho hum game in january with the intensity dialed down, letang might be the one of the best players in the league. in some wild playoff game - nope. fleury evokes a similar sentiment. and crosby's probably not in that category, but he's not not in that category.
