Jeff Zatkoff makes his NHL debut tonight as the Penguins take on the Florida Panthers in their home opener at Whateveritscalledthisseason Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM. (It is now the BB&T Center, by the way. Just in case you care).

The 26 year old Zatkoff was the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins' MVP last season, with a 1.93 Goals Against Average.

The Pens come in 3-0, sweeping a three game homestand. It's their best start since 1995.

Florida is 1-3, having lost in Tampa last night, 7-2. The Panthers are led by defenseman Brian Campbell, with 4 points in the four games so far. No other Panther has more than two points.

I'm really hoping Zatkoff can show he's a capable backup which is all we need. Make the saves you should and steal a few you shouldnt.

Keep an eye on Maatta if the Panthers throw their top line at him and Bortuzzo. Frankly I hope Bylsma let's it happen and not try to match up the defense and shield those two. I want to see what both of them do against better competition.

Maybe even more so Bortuzzo. It would be very good if he keeps improving and can be paired with Scuderi as shutdown pair. He has the size and mean streak to be that guy.
