Just remember to ask every shady character you see, "Cuánto es su heroína?" and you'll be fine.

Well, we got free tickets from the comedian we saw for the 2nd show that night, so we wound up just crashing at one of my friend's houses near Southside.

My family wants to take a vacation next summer (june/july-ish). They wanted to do Carolina. But I suggested we should just do an all inclusive.

Anyone ever been to Cabo San Lucas? It looks relatively inexpensive. Looking for 6 nights, and hoping for $1200-1400 a person. Cancun places look to be had for about $1000, which is also an option.

I returned, safe and sound. Spent most of the time in Mexico City, but also visited San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuanto. All were beautiful and awesome in their own ways. The food was soooooooooo damn good.

Going back to Mexico City for Christmas. Anyone ever travel internationally with a pet? Planning on taking the family mutt this time.

Make sure you get a pet health certificate as you get close to departure (within 10 days).

That sounds about right, but don't forget about the flights. I think when I went there, flights were around six or seven hundo each. So you can probably tack on another $1400 in travel costs overall.

Really? Some of the places I was looking were 1200 for 6 nights w/ flight.

That's a pretty unbelievable deal if that includes the flight AND is all-inclusive. I'd check the reviews, but sounds like a solid investment.

How long have you been married? ;)

Sometimes those trips are just that, an investment in the relationship or even in just keeping the Mrs. happy.

I've been here:

It was a fantastic property! A bit far from the downtown area, but they run a regular shuttle and you can grab a cab back fairly inexpensively

Not bad... Think of it this way, the Safety is a product of how much drug traffic runs through the area... Cabo sits at the end of the Baja Peninsula and has no where near the amount of drugs as say Alcapulco.

Cabo is probably just as safe as, and maybe safer than Cancun.

The downside to cabo is that there isn't much mexican culture history there. (No day trips to Taxco for instance). But if you're going for sun and sand (and great marlin fishing) its awesome!

San Miguel was beautiful. Very vibrant, very active little town with lots of Mexican culture and history, a great street scene, tons of art studios and shops, and very easy to walk. It's become a hotspot for US expatriates and tourists, so there was definitely more Americans, and more English being spoken, than other areas. While this inherently isn't a downside it has caused San Miguel to become overly crowded, overpriced, and the focus on catering to tourists seems to have left the citizens of San Miguel behind.

Overall I preferred Guanajuato. Same bright, vibrant, active feeling as San Miguel, but the city was a little larger with more to do. We went to Guanajuato in the middle of El Cervantino, so the city was packed 24/7 with people outside partying and playing music all night long. Food was cheap. Street vendors everywhere. The tunnel system in the city was both amazing and terrifying. Lots of interesting museums. Beautiful theater. Was an amazing city.

So it seems strange to me to be posting this but New Orleans is a city that I haven't been to in decades. I'm thinking of heading back for a long weekend. Any "must do's"?

Just did a whirlwind 5 days with a convention there.

We did the aquarium, a swamp airboat tour, several bars and one or two dining experiences. And of course Cafe Du Monde.
