OFFICIAL GDT: PENS v. AVALANCHE -- 4/6/14

Postby slappybrown on Sun Apr 06, 2014 6:40 pm

Penguins (49-24-5; 103 pts, locked into 2 Seed in East) versus Avalanche (50-21-6; 106 pts, locked into a first round matchup with the Hawks)

Pens v. Nordiques/Avs moments:

This is one of my favorite Mario goals ever:

Full on yard sale. Amazing how different the game is now in terms of violence. Includes drive-by punches from third man in.

Jagr-esque:

NERD STUFF THAT ONLY NERDS LIKE:

http://www.extraskater.com/game/2014-04 ... he/preview

tl;dnrbmalas: The Avs skaters aren't as good as their record indicates, and Varlamov is their MVP.

WHY THE PENS WILL WIN:

1. ADAM PAYERL SON

2. The Avs are on a 6 game win streak so maybe they will lose a game now that they have won a lot of them in a row.

3. Sidney Crosby I mean Evgeni Malkin I mean Chris Kunitz I mean Olli Maatta I mean.....Craig Adams??? Yes, Craig Adams.

4. It would be a fun thing for the Penguins to win a professional hockey game by "scoring", at minimum, one additional "goal" in comparison to the team that they are playing, which in this game would be the Colorado "Avalanche" (not a literal Avalanche, but rather an assemblage of professional hockey "players").

5. Let us go Pittsburgh Penguins American sports enterprise and limited partnership business venture.

There is a CBJ game on at 7pm. This thread is very early. ;)

Glad Crosby and Kunitz are sitting. If they're not going to try they may as well rest with whatever 'injury' they have.

Thank God they interviewed Crosby about the prospect of playing a full season the other day.

Sitting all the Olympians. Well all the ones they can sit. Not a big deal in a meaningless game. I'm sure they do have some bumps and bruises. Better they be fresh for the playoffs. That said, this game could get ugly. Hopefully they show up and play the system well....

Meaningless game at altitude in a back-to-back situation? Yeah, I'm good with them sitting. And for entertainment purposes only, I'm glad the info came out an hour before gametime.

It has a chance with the early start and WB cross traffic. ;)

I won't be active. When I get done writing this report I'm probably going to watch a movie with my wife and then fall asleep to the Pens game around 11pm.

I assume they are being especially cautious, which is a good idea.

Yeah, my PS3 is calling my name. Don't care to watch hockey where the white flag has already been waved.

Official GOT thread?

Also ten bucks says we win 3-0, making no sense whatsoever.

Why not rest Fleury also? It is obviously a meaningless game.

Remind me to never buy tickets late in the season for pens games when we have a seed locked up like this...I get them sitting but man I would be furious if I bought tickets to this game and almost every star player is out.

Yikes. Though I like the idea of Megna-Payerl playing together on a fourth line. They need to drag a corpse around, but good to get a look.

I'm guessing they are going to rest the stars on the road. I'm sure they will get at least one more rest day. We'll see if they do this at home too, but yeah it would suck to pay to go to a game and not see the best players because the coach gave them a day off. Sounds like they took the night off yesterday too. I didn't see the game. I was watching the pirates lose.

That would be about Bylsma's speed. Win with a completely depleted lineup, lose when healthy.
