Charity Bags

Postby agwin003 on Sat Mar 16, 2019 11:18 am

I was thinking about picking up a new jersey, then I saw the Charity Bags went on sale today. Anyone have any idea what the odds of getting a jersey in the Black bags are? Has anyone bought them in the past?

From personal experience, it's about 1 out of 4, but that's a pretty small sample size. I got a signed Fleury jersey about two years ago or so.

Just found out, my wife sprung for one of the gold ones this year. Hoping to get a Mario signed jersey, but I'm guessing those are really rare.

That's awesome, sounds like you've got a keeper there. My wife said I could get a black one for now. Good luck!

Yes, I do have a keeper. Probably a more rabid Pens fan than I am. She's not a happy camper today, though, after that clunker.

I am 0 for 3 on black bags. Hopefully, those 1 in 4 odds work out this year.

The 4-to-1 on getting a signed in a black bag sound about right. $1,000 bags get one. And 4 $250 bags also would receive, on average, one signed jersey. So 1 jersey for $1,000 either way.

I always wondered if it's a little rigged and that the Pens make sure that it's the ticket package buyers and season ticket holders that get first preference on getting the signed jerseys in the $250 charity bag pre-orders....and on the $1000 bag orders they get the better top player signed jerseys.

That would require the Pens administrative offices to give a flying-poo about their STHs.

So maybe a funny story about the charity gift bags. This one I get this year will be my 5th bag.

So the first three years I got bad puck signings...in fact every player I got was than traded or right before I got my bag:
-Simon Depres
-Derrick Polliout
- Carter Rowney

For the Alumni pucks they used to give out I got Colby and Troy Loney. So you could say my luck not so great...than the 4th year I hit it big. I got me a signed Crosby Jersey and a signed Malkin puck. After that bag nothing else really mattered to me. If the normal trend continues I'll most likely get a Tanner Pearson one LOL...don't really want anymore jerseys though...I don't think Fiance would let me hang up two LOL. I just want a Dumo signed puck. Behind Malkin he's my other current fav Pen.

My bigger thing with the bags is that it goes to a great cause and some of the things I've gotten over time have been used quite a lot. The boobleheads have taken over area around my TV and office at work. The bag it came in two years ago is a great carry on bag when I fly and the pet calendar is always cool to hang up. This year I'm happy they changed up the players on the boobleheads and we get Guentzy. I also like how this year it is a insulted bag so I can use it as a cooler down here in this redic Houston, TX heat. Was hoping to get it before I head to Miami 3/27 for my bachelor party but doesn't look like that is gonna happen.

Man, I've had better luck than you on alumni pucks. My alumni pucks were Paul Coffey and Pierre Larouche.

I have only gotten the one bag (so far) - which was last year. Ended up getting an autographed Evgeni Malkin jersey and Dumoulin and Schultz autographed pucks. Wanted to get one again this year, but couldn't justify the cost. Great cause!

I live out of town and don't have season tickets and I got a Mario Lemieux jersey the first time I bought a $250 bag.

Mine showed up today. I got the holy grail. One genuine signed #66 jersey. One genuine signed #87 puck. It was like a dream come true.

got a dumoulin signed jersey and a schultz puck. + bobbleheads (58,87,59,72), towel, etc....

kids were disappointed that the jersey was #8, despite not getting a jersey at all the last 3 years.

So got my bag today and so it continues with the bad luck. I got a Dominik Simon puck hahaha

So the only note worthy pick I have is Malkin and Colby over five years of bags. The funny thing is I got Crosby signed jersey and Malkin puck in same year. The cool thing is the puck was the 50 years puck so pretty good puck to get it for. The puck case we got this year I used on the Malkin puck haha

Love the event and will do every year. :). Favorite item this year is the License plate. It’s so unique and I’ll stick out in Houston like a true yankee :)
