Traveling from the Burgh to Toronto in Jan/Feb question

Postby spi on Wed Aug 27, 2008 1:59 pm

I Wanted to ask if anyone has any advice on the best way to get up to Toronto at the end of January or Mid February timeframe. I am planning to go see the birds face the leaves either Jan 31 or February 14th. Knowing that this trip will have a high likelihood of inclement weather, I thought I would ask if others know of any regular direct bus lines up there. Airfare is ridiculously expensive. I plan on driving but figured I would ask the pens faithful for suggestions.

From my experience at the winter classic, the charter bus was a God send especially on the ride home.

Yikes! That trip back from the Winter Classic was a mess! And we were so glad we weren't driving! But what memories!!! :D

Back to the subject on hand, I don't know of any. I know that last year there were some packages put together to see the Pens/Caps games but weather of course wasn't a factor. Maybe it would be in your best interest to take an extra day or so in case of inclement weather. Then if you don't need it you still have that extra day to recoup from the trip.

Also, leave early for the game, give yourself plenty of time to make it. You never know when you're going to hit a whiteout up there, and that will really slow you down. You don't want to be stuck in the middle of a white out in Buffalo when the puck drops in Toronto.

Do we need a passport to get into Canada or is that only for flights into Canada? Double check that you dont.....just to be safe.

You don't need one if you're driving, but they want you to show some sort of ID (usually birth certificates, etc.)

You should get a passport anyways, it is useful to have one.

I did the trip two seasons ago when JS scored in OT. Great trip and great city. Give yourself two days to tag on in teh begining and end of the trip jsut to be sure. Also you can't get to Toronto from Pittsburgh via AMTRAK.
