Just played the demo.

In the "Be a Pro" mode, the camera kind of sucks when you have the puck or go around the net.

Seemed a lot harder to get shots off, especially in the slot.

I lost the first time I tried 'Be a Pro', but I just won 2-0 with A+ in position and stats and A- in team play. It definitely takes some getting used to not always being the puck carrier...

Haha wow shootout lineup is 1 Malkin 2 Crosby 3 Sykora. I won it with Crosby, now there is no reason to go to shootout again.

2 questions.

1. In BAP mode, are the arrows always directing you?

2. Did they improve on the gameplay engine from last year's regular play?

I've only seen the arrows when in the wrong place pointing at who I should be covering on D. Like i'll be leaving their zone and the arrow is pointing to their center or winger entering ours.

btw - Pensblog has a team http://eashl.wikia.com/wiki/Team_Pensblog

Yeah the arrows only point when you are out of position, and you have to be pretty far away. I wanna say there is an imaginary faceoff sized circle and if you are in it, you are in position. So you c an really be "in position" but not be where you should be.

Yeah I haven't really used the lift stick at all because most of the time im in position on my guy to do it, he doesn't have the puck because i'm covering him close.

The lift stick is awesome....One of the best parts, when you attempt to lift, there is a chance you will go too high and clip him in the face and get 2 min for high sticking. I was shocked and very impressed by that. It happened once in about 30 lifts?

btw - Lifting can be used not just for messing up one timers, but if someone has the puck and you lift, they may skate over it or it may slide away from the player.

I'm gonna have to start incorporating that, because I don't see how I could get any better against the computer right now otherwise. I can't wait to actually play against a human player.

I don't know, it feels more like real hockey to me. Maybe it's just because I never played with position locked before, but I really like it. It's hard to get a quality shot off, but when you do get that perfect shot it will likely go in. In previous years it seemed like you just had to keep throwing the puck at the net and hope some of them sneak in. Defensive play also seems a little better.

I can win consistently now with 3-4 goals on the demo settings... I am so ready for the full game. NHL 08 is dead to me. 8-)

I've found scoring a little easy...Enter the zone with Crosby just off to the right, take a slapshot at the top of the circle through the defenders leg and aim mid-left or mid-right. That goes in often.

A little more realistic then always top right shelf like 08...

I think that will be improved when we can tweak difficulty settings, but it seems to me that the basics are there, and solid.

In the minor nitpick department, hopefully the demo does not include the full final player models. Right now Orpik and Gonchar are being played on the ice by Generic White Guy #1 and Generic White Guy #2...

Orpik has killed someone in about 1 of every 3 or 4 games i've played, so I approve.

I think I've officially done all there is to do in the demo... I got three A+'s in the post game rating, and I've determined that "Watch the turnovers" and "You've got to do better on faceoffs" are the two negatives thrown out whenever the computer can determine nothing actually negative about your gameplay. It refuses to not list two negatives.

I got the faceoff negative in my 3 A+ game that I won 3-0 (two by me with Sid, with a Sykora EN). Oh, and I was 8 for, 2 against in faceoffs that game. I guess I should feel shame for that faceoff performance, those two should never have gotten away...

I agree, I've got those when I only lost one face off and had maybe one or two turnovers.

Well....you are playing as the Pens...

Having to get better at faceoffs and watching the turnovers is a given....
