New arena (baby) blues?

Postby Three Stars on Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:15 am

My daily perusing of http://icethetics.blogspot.com mentions this:

A rumor out there suggests that when the Pittsburgh Penguins move into their new arena in 2010, they'll abandon the gold completely for a new blue-based look — a throwback perhaps to their original sweater colors when they joined the NHL in 1967.

I don't see why they can't incorporate blue into the black 'n' gold. If the Pirates can use red as a highlight, the Pens can use blue.

Oh, and if you're hip to the idea of using your own severed leg as a hockey stick, here's the jersey for you.

No No No

Black and Gold (or Yellow) Forever. I can live with a blue 3rd as it is retro, but not full time.

Speaking of the blue. I would love to see the Penguins bring out their Baby Blue third Jerseys on Tuesday night against their arch-rivals.

dont see this happening as they just had all the banners updated to black and gold... if they were even considering this... I dont think they would have done that this year!

I 100% back this comment. The Pens are black and gold to me, and have been 29 out of the 41 seasons of their existence. And during those 12 years, they were garbage.

I don't mind the blues as a third jersey, but I hope they never make them permanant. It wouldn't make me any less of a a fan, but I'd be highly disappointed. Plus, can't the damn team keep a uniform for over a season or two?

This needs to stay a rumor forever. I've relented a little on the powder blues and can live with them as a 3rd (even though either Cup jersey or the yellow Sunday jerseys they wore in Mario's early days would have been way, way better choices IMO), but no way should they go to them full time.

That said, they aren't wearing black and gold right now either. Call it brown, tan, khaki, beige, or whatever; it ain't gold though.

They are better, but no. Stick with the black and gold.

What about sticking with the black and gold and going with a more traditional uniform design and using this logo:

Eliminate the blue outer ring and make it black for roads and white for homes...or yellow?

Changing back to the "blues" has been discussed for ages, I just don't see it happening. The Penguins organization seems to know and understand the "Pittsburgh sports mystique" and that all the teams wearing black & gold is a part of that. Of course I could be wrong but I think the blue third jersey is as far as it will go.

If anything, I think the Pens would go to a slightly darker color of gold before they ever went blue. If they did, they would match the gold color of the new corporate logo for BNYMellon, which does have first refusal for naming rights to the new arena.

I like this idea a lot. Black and Yellow would be fine, too. I just don't see why every team in Pittsburgh has to have the same colors.

I know a lot of people don't understand that, but it's what makes Pgh unique. And I like that. But also, I hate it when teams continually change their uniforms and colors. There is no identity. If the Pens would have been blue and white from their inception until now, I'd be fine with that. But they have been black and gold for almost 30 years. And a lot of those years were good years/championship years.

I look at a team like the Vancouver Canucks who change their uniform and colors almost every year it seems. Or the Washington Wizards in BB. Or the Capitals. It is your team colors. It is what represents that team. Why change them?

I'm cool with going back to blues. I used to think all the city's team needed to be black and gold, but not any more. I really like the blue color scheme. Brings me back to my childhood.

I don't mind the current unis. I don't like the gold. Never liked it, preferred the yellow. I still stick to what I said last season when we had this same "change the unis" discussion. The current uni with yellow instead of the beige would be a... wait for it... mazing!!!
