I've gotta give Letang some credit for not backing off of a big body like Godard.
As most everyone else has already said, it's not really a big deal....tempers flare in practice all the time.

At least Godard restrained himself...We can't afford to lose any more defenseman!

Fighting between team mates happens more than you know. Emotions run high when you're in an intense practice and the team is frustrated.

Sounds like it was more of a scrum than a fight...no punches thrown, just some wrestling.
I just finished watching the Cryers game tonight. They will come out swinging tomorrow. They were pretty chippy tonight and I hope Godard and Biz are in the line-up.

I like it, nothing wrong with some passion in a practice. Hopefully they carry it over into the game tomorrow.

The team isn't playing well and are very frustrated about it, tempers flare up and things like this happen, I don't really see it as a big deal unless it starts to happen frequently.

I'd rather have a team that cares and gets frustrated, than one that just rolls with the punches (no pun intended). I'm not advocating fighting in every practice, but it's not a big deal. Especially seeing as there were no punches thrown - this sorta thing isn't exactly rare.

Why? For being the first Penguin to show any actual emotion?

i always thought letang went in later rounds because of attitude.
i am in no way accusing him of starting anything at all.

Later rounds? Kris Letang was the 1st pick of the 3rd round, 62nd overall. That draft went 230 picks over 7 rounds.
Additionally, the kid captained the 2007 Canadian World Junior Team, which won a gold medal; not something typically entrusted to people with attitude problems.

It's hockey, fights happen, even in practice. No harm, no foul, and I predict nothing done.

It's because negative things (if this is one) are always downplayed and if you talk about them you're not a true fan

Which is a late pick for a talented, WJC captain? Even I've heard the rumours of his attitude and I'm betting he's not to happy with his play so far.
Everything possibly negative doesn't have to be downplayed all the time, it can be discussed just as anything else.
That said, I'm sure this is not a big deal =)

Somebody's gonna take a run at Sid or Geno tonight and then you'll all be wishing that BGL was there to "politely" ask for a fight.......No one is scared of Godard.....

Outside of Laraque, there are few players in the league guys are "afraid" of. The problem is historically the Penguins have never been a tough team and the fourth line fighter (when we've had one) has been expected to fight everyone, everytime someone steps out of line. Philly and alot of other teams do not have that problem because they have 4-5, 6, 7 guys that play overly physical and back it up if need be. Godard being dressed tonight will have no effect on the Flyers because their entire fourth line will be willing to take him on. Losing guys like Malone, Ruutu and Roberts will hurt more against teams like the Flyers.
The issue is Therrien. Shero obviously saw the need for guys like Ruutu, Laraque and Roberts (I think its in Shero's blood). You can have 10 tough guys, but if the coach insists they go out and trap, there isn't going to be too much room for hitting.
I would guess there will be some liberties taken tonight considering Hartnell, Asham, Cote and Downie will all be in the lineup. Hopefully nobody gets hurt; lord knows we can't afford any more injuries.

Wonder what caused all of it. Letang doesn't seem like the antagonistic type.
Team fighting during practice is just bad news, any way you slice it. Makes me think of Ottawa last year. At least Godard hardly plays.
I agree! Make Godard take a cold shower & go stand outside for an hour.

yes and no.
heavyweights pretty much always fought laraque when prompted. but of course turds like upshall, hollweg, avery, tucker etc...they wouldn't do it. but they wouldn't fight orr, parros, mcgratton, brashear, boogard or any other heavyweight either. it had nothing to do with laraque being the best, it was just that he wasn't in their weight class. riley cote is the only guy i can think of that's really "fearless".
laraque's only value enforcement-wise was that he would always win those heavyweight bouts. but who cares? does colton orr really bother anyone?
and upshall, hollweg, avery, tucker etc...they won't fight goddard this year either. it's up to biz, kennedy, talbot, orpik (and i guess gill?) to take care of the "pests" of the league.

Ruutu and BGL wanted alot of money for 3rd and 4th line role players, and you are going to throw MT under the bus for letting those guys go?
