Interesting conversation

Postby NJ5934 on Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:28 pm

As if there wasn't enough speculation about the new third jersey....

My wife called PenStation this week inquiring about the new third jersey for yours truely. The women that answered the call said the third jersey this year IS NOT the Winter Classic jersey everyone is expecting. Sadly, she would not reveal anything more. Interesting.....

I doubt it. Judging by the new merchandise at the arena this year, I would be willing to bet a lot of money that the third will be of the powder blue variety.

An blurb in an article in one of the papers pretty much said the same. It's based on several of the original jersey designs and will be blue but it's not the exact jersey from the Winter Classic. I assume it will be similar to the way Buffalo's ended up. It's still the same basic premise of their Winter Classic jersey but somewhat different.

Just to let everyone know it will still be powder blue with vintage logo similar to what Buffalo did with there third uni. Go to dicks or nhlshop.com theres blue Pens stuff with the vintage logo everywhere.

Part of me also thinks they want to do a new design based on alot of the knockoffs being sold of the winter classic style jersey.

I like the home/white one with golden triangle & contrasting hockey pants.

Last night in the merchandise area around B1/A32 it sells nothing but vintage penguin. they did have some 90-91 cup tees with francis, stevens and coffey.

This would be a variation on the same body style as the winter classic, but with the nice bold vintage crest:

The Winter Classic logo is pretty pervasive throughout merchandise so I'm betting that they're definitely still using that. I think if anything maybe the striping is more similar to the jersey that Kovy posted. Remember, the article said that it borrows from several vintage designs so maybe it's striping like that but with white instead of black.

I like it. It's something special that Pittsburgh has. That said, depending on how you look at it, it's not true. The Pirates have a red third jersey. If the Pens going with a blue third were enough to change the fact, it wouldn't anyway because of the Bucs. I like the powder blue thirds but I'd never want them to go away from black and gold as the primary scheme.

I second that. Any other powder blue but the one from the Winter Classic will disappoint. That is the only true money one, but the above would be the absolute worst. Such a blatant rip-off from Rangers is all it reminds me of every time I see it. Hated it also when they did it in black and gold. Please don't do it. Why can't they just go with a good idea that works? No, of course they have to screw it up as usual to make more money.
