Seriously though, ever since that incident he's sucked.

Do it.

I don't know about that. The guy has the talent. He did score 29 as a rookie. That wasn't a fluke.

ummm, nope. i believe players should be put on the lines that best demonstrate their skill level. and since we don't have a 5th line....
The lower lines forechecked well, and that led to a goal by Zigomanis (please don’t call him Ziggy). Cooke worked the puck loose behind the net and found Ziggy all alone in front.

...huh?

yeah. it's ok to say. it doesn't mean you're anti-staal or anything. but that was a fluky collection of goals.
he's still nowhere near the point where demotion should be considered though.

I think Staal is the one to prove that statement wrong. If he never sniffs 29 goals again over his career then your assertion would be valid but to say it was a fluke when the kid has played 3 seasons, actually 2 seasons and 4 games, before he turns legal drinking age (Note I said Legal) is a little premature dont you think???
I'd like to see a list of current nhl players Staal's age or younger that you think are better.
Lets not leave out of this debate that in the playoffs, Staal has played 25 games and scored 9 goals. Which is pretty close to his "fluky" average over a full season. This is when the games are tighter and mean the most.
shmenguin wrote:staal's rookie year production was fluky, but so was his lack of production last year.
too early to give up. he doesn't need to produce big points to prove himself this year, but he needs to look better overall.
