Frolov, Hickey, prospect for Kovalchuk would get it done I'm sure...
Why would LA trade for Kovalchuk? They're not ready yet to trade Frolov and make a run at the cup.

then that's actaully really really solid top to bottom.
...still can't give away letang AND staal tho.
Then you don't get Kovalchuk.
Remember....the team that gets the best player, gets the best of the deal.
True there.
People would forget Staal after Kovalchuck's first hattrick and Letang once Whitney returns.

They reportedly have interest in Gaborik as well...
I'm just saying they have the cheaper chips that could get the deal done...LA is getting closer to turning the corner...Not a cup contender, but it would be great for that franchise to get a star player again...

Don't they have Kopitar? Brown is lesser known, but still what i'd consider a star.

Actually, now that I think about it some more that wouldn't be too bad lol. We'd actually be dumping salary in that deal since Staal is going to make alot more than 2.2M next year.

Biz-Zigo-Godard
I'd that that no questions asked...You think Atlanta would accept that?
I really, really don't think you have to throw Satan or Sykora in there. You'd be losing one goal scorer to add another. We need both.

I care about my Kings, the only Western Conference team that I can really say I like. Only one of 3 teams that I can say I like really.

Agreed. Kopitar is a budding star. But bringing a Kovalchuk type of player to LA would be huge for them. They need to start taking on Anaheim again....
Yes, LA is my other team I follow...

I was just stating that other teams will have interest in Kovalchuk, and they could get him without making Atlanta take back any salary (Sydor, barf)...

I'm one of the biggest Staal supporters on this board.
With that being said, this trade would be worth it to hear MT say KovaCHOO every night!

They would be better off using resources to shore up the defense and goaltending if they want to make a move now toward winning the division. They are fine up front but the D and goaltending is downright terrible.

They aren't being used with our two best centers now and ATL would need someone to attmept to score goals. It also cuts some salary.

you're right, kris beech was probably the best of the jagr deal. and didn't we get rico fata for kovalev
...but seriously...if you're rebuilding, you want young cheap talent, bargain veterans and draft picks. these trades happen all the time (hossa anyone?). you don't need to give up stars to get stars in return.

Haha, I read this without reading the context and I'm thinking, "What the hell!" Then I realized you were talking about the Kings, not the Pens.

I'm no fun - I can't get into discussing trades for fun because I can't ignore what I think is reality. In this case, I cannot see Shero trading away most of the players being thrown around in this thread.

After the Hossa trade, all bets are off for me. I wasn't surprised by anything but the pick. Outside of that, he really gave up nothing, it was pretty conservative otherwise.

Im not really in favor either way and I don't think that it will happen but:
Kovalchuk is perhaps the best in the league at the one timer/ half slapper. The problem with Sid's line without Malkin is that there is no one addition to Sid who can carry the puck into the zone, and keep up skating wise. I think Kovalchuk is one of the best options in the entire NHL for Sids wing. Sure he carried the puck but he is a right hand shot, and that will really help our pp and Sid's line-he can pass to an entire new side of the ice.

If you don't want to deal any cheap, young assets then the pens should look hard into signing Sundin. Hear me out:
Getting Sundin allows you to keep the 2 elite players together this year.
All it costs is money.
It would be a 1 year investment I'm sure.
After this year you have a lot of cap space available to sign a winger or 2...
It comes down to this:
Trade Staal, Goligoski etc. for Kovalchuk
OR
Sign Sundin for 1 year say $5MM

Except Sundin is a center and he reportedly has a 2 year, $20M offer from Vancouver still open to him. He will command a lot more than $5M, even from one of the contenders. NY would probably clear cap space if he showed interest.
