Stan Fischler is over-rated.

You've gotta give Stan Fischler credit.....he manages to be a homer for all 3 NY area teams.

I mean when you're team sucks that badly you're probably looking for any way to rationalize it. But in the end, their inevitable 75 point season will do the talking.

I don't remember Lange making tons of comments like that when the Pens were bad, and I certainly hope that I'm not repressing them and our announcers really aren't that dumb.

I can accept that the puck bouncing over the netminders glove was aided by poor ice, but Staal worked his arse off for that goal.

It really grinds my gears...

This is why I put the Pens' radio network on during the intermissions guys... Stan Fischler's opinion is completely worthless. He's an annoying geezer and a homer, no doubt.

I dont really mind if an announcer is a "homer" really. It's over-homerism that bothers me.

I think I just invented a word!

Honestly, I think we're spoiled in Pittsburgh. The fact that we have Steiggy and Errey and used to have Lange and Edzo means we've had some high-quality play-by-play and color, compared to many teams in the league.

We've got Joe Benanati and Craig Laughlin here in DC. Laughlin's voice makes me want to use the claw end of a hammer to remove my own teeth.

I'll probably get mauled but I've always liked John Forslund and wouldn't mind seeing him if Steigy ever left.

I like Forslund. He's solid. No Jim Hughson, but few people can be.

BTW, Fischler is on pace to score zero goals this season.

Fischler once made on an "all-time" team during one Devils intermission that I didn't have the remote for...Gretzky wasn't on it...he was called on it by the generic ****** of a host, he made a second team, again, no Gretzky...he said something to the effect that he "might be on my 5th team" - I want to punch him in the head and then have it dissipate into a fine sand...

During the Isles/Pens game, Fischler went on about why Crosby shouldn't be a captain.

I'm fairly certain he has a learning disability.

ZenPenguin wrote:I thought Fischler was smart when I was about 12 years old. I used to read his "who's better" articles in Hockey Digest. I believed that if Fischler said someone was better that he really was. Now, many years later and much wiser (I hope), I realized he is not very smart.

I never read that mag regularly, most because almost every one of those articles made me think "does this guy actually watch them play?"

Fischler once chastised Mario Lemieux for returning to the NHL, saying among other nonsense that Mario was taking away a roster spot from a deserving young player.

That tells you all you need to know about whether or not anyone should concern themselves about what he has to say.

Glad I have no clue who this guy is. Is he the cranky old <kittens> on the Rangers broadcasts in between periods?
