Staal

Postby Caputi19 on Tue Nov 11, 2008 11:24 pm

After watching him all season, this guy is best suited for playing center. His game is to roam around and use his reach when chasing guys down for the puck. I think what hurt him at the beginning was him being constricted to just one side of the ice. I believe right now Staal is a top 5 shutdown centerman in the league. As a winger i say hes in the bottom half. Once people realize that his most amount of value is playing center because of his defense and other qualities. Whats wrong with having 2 of the best offensive centerman in the game and the best defensive center who all are under 22. Great comeback by the pens.

The advantages you present can be achieved as a wing too. On the defensive side of the puck, you let him play the center spot and free up Malkin for a faster break. Assuming he was playing with Malkin that is.

Funny how in 2 games Staal is tied with Malkin and one ahead of Crosby in goal scoring. Where did that come from? lol...BTW if it wasn't for Zigomanis, we don't win tonight period!

As long as they know their defensive roles it would actually be easier. Lets the center be more aggressive on the offensive end knowing that his role on the defensive end is more likely at the top of the zone.

I say we trade Malkin now. Get a goal scoring winger for our new number 2 center Jordan Staal.

agree 100%

Zigomanis has been a great pickup. He contributes more than just in the face-off circle, too.

I wasn't one of the people yelling to trade staal, but to be honest, it's one game.

He had an amazing game, but lets see if he keeps it up. We've been waiting for this since his rookie season.

If I were one of the people that were calling for that, I would respond "Ask for more now?"

Correct. Obviously you base the entire value of a player off on one game, his last game. If it was good he is a superstar mega-stud. If it was bad he is a bust. Come on Pitts, don't you know that by now?!?!

Nothing at all... depending on the price. If having a "best" defensive 3rd line center means having to pass on having a top line winger or having a top pairing Dman... then no, it's not worth it. If you pat that "best" defensive center more like the 3rd line player that he is... then cool.

You know what was great? It was how Jordan Staal pick-pocketed Pavel Datsyuk in overtime. And the pick-pocket not only led to a goal but it made Datsyuk fall. It was a great individual play by Staalsy. It was all Staal in the 3rd and OT.

Not according to TSN.

9 FOW 5 FOL 64.3%

It was also mentioned elsewhere that he was 4 for 4 against the Wings top guy, Draper.

I've never really said to trade Staal, but for those who now want to sign him to a long term contract because of one outstanding game, it's just as bad as the people who want to trade him because of a few bad games.

Hopefully he can keep this up. If he wants a HUGE contract, it won't work with the Pens. But if he improves, that is when you want to trade him. He will get the most value back. Not when he is playing like crap.
