5-Oct-06 Official Pens vs Flyers Game Thread

Postby André on Thu Oct 05, 2006 5:30 am

I just stole my first game thread. The big premiere and all, hah!

But worry not my friends! I watched three Pens' games live last season and I think they actually won one or two of them. One was the 5-1 trashing of the Islanders.

The game is broadcasted here in Sweden and I'll watch it live with a friend. How about avoiding the record of losing seven consecutive season openers?

Pens roster:

LW: Nils Ekman, C: Sidney Crosby, RW: Colby Armstrong
LW: John LeClair, C: Ryan Malone, RW: Mark Recchi
LW: Jarkko Ruutu, C: Dominic Moore, RW: Michel Ouellet
LW: Karl Stewart, C: Jordan Staal, RW: Chris Thorburn

Extra: Andre Roy

LD: Mark Eaton, RD: Sergei Gonchar
LD: Josef Melichar, RD: Ryan Whitney
LD: Ro Scuderi, RD: Kristopher Letang

G1: Marc-Andre Fleury, G2: Jocelyn Thibault

Flyers roster:

LW: Simon Gagne, C: Peter Forsberg, RW: Mike Knuble
LW: Kyle Calder, C: Mike Richards, RW: Jeff Carter
LW: Geoff Sanderson, C: Randy Robitaille, RW: Ryan Umberger
LW: Boyd Kane, C: Petr Nedved, RW: Sami Kapanen

LD: Derian Hatcher, RD: Mike Rathje
LD: Joni Pitkanen, RD: Freddy Meyer
LD: Randy Jones, RD: Nolan Baumgartner

G1: Robert Esche, G2: Antero Niittymäki

F the Flyers! The Flyers suck!

LEEETSSS!!

This is kinda early for a game thread. I'd say you've gone against tradition. This would never fly at the old board. Now if they lose, you'll be responsible.

Hey, only 14 hours 'til the puck drops. And I'm confident they'll win.

Out with a hand injury.

You know, what's scary? The Flyers defense isn't much better than ours.

I'm with you there, they'll miss Kim Johnsson. Especially when Pitkänen goes down after 40 games.

Come on, I'll watch with friends tonight, make me proud!

Yesterday Canes wore red at home. But Toronto wore white. As I recall Toronto was allowed to wear white at home last year. Why do they get to do it? I would love to see the pens in white again.

Looks like tonight will be all about goaltending. Flyer's D is almost as bad as ours, but their O is a lot better. We SHOULD have the better goaltending, because I think Esche is a bum, so it's time for MAF to take charge.

Official thread started 14 hours before the game?! There's a first for everything I guess.

I'll wait a few games to see how Rathje and Hatcher who both played half the season with serious injuries bounce back before saying they're flat out awful. Besides Pitkanen is going to have a break out year.

Hopefully Ruutu will break out his hands and rearrange that goofy grin on his face.

How many teeth are the penguins going to lose tonight from Hatcher high sticks that he will not get called for?

Less than 10 hours to game time now! This has been the longest day of school ever, and I'm only 2.5 hours into the day. These free periods aren't helping...and I have two more today. This game is all I can think about. I haven't been caught off guard yet by a teacher, but I've only had two classes so far today, it could happen.

Yeah. I really hate that you guys got him one pick ahead of us in that year's draft at 4. :?

Any chance you want to re-do that draft? We'll take him and you guys can have Ryan Whitney who we took at 5.

I'll bet you've called "shotgun" 14 hours before a road trip, too!

I like it. Heck, there's more enthusiasm here than the Pens front office is showing.

No outdoor/indoor fan events planned, no team-related cook-outs, no bands, no highlight reels, no sponsored congregation at all.

This is such a 1974-type marketing organ-i-zation they have. It's deplorable, and I hope that JB will clean it out.
