Obviously, this is going to hinge on Tangradi's development. I'm not a fan of Kunitz.
Good luck to Whitney. He is going to be a far better player than many around here believe he will be.

I saw Tangradi play in the Memorial Cup last season with Belleville. He is a big, strong, power forward type who can really develop into something special. He is obviously not a sure thing, but he has every tool you would want.
It gives us another "hopeful" for the slot of power forward in a top 6 role to go with Villeaux (who appears to be heading in the wrong direction) and Caputi. We have some smaller forward prospects who appear to be top six types, but these are the "bigs".

Nice. I guess this means that Pronger is a good as gone. Don't know much aabout Tangradi but Kunitz is a great pick up.

Yeah it looks that way. Kunitz is a just a 20 goal guy playing on a good team the past few years. He's small 5-11 198lbs. Not sure about his speed. He didn't contribute much when the Ducks won the cup. I wouldn't say he's much better than Fedetenko. And I'm not so keen on paying Tank 3.75 m for 4 years.
Anyone have Tangradi's stats this season in the O?

Fair trade imo...
Whitney replaces Pronger/Neidermayer (I guess)...
Kunitz isn't the elite wing we need. But he's a top 6 power forward. From what I've read, people like Tangradi...
I wanted this to happen on the deadline! = )

I hope Ryan well -- I was never a hater.
I like Shero's strategy with this trade -- get a player signed for a few (Kunitz) and a prospect to help fill the system. All received while selling 'high' (how high is arguable though seeing as Whits just had surgery).

Eric Tangradi is a big power forward from Philadelphia...he plays for Belleville (OHL) and leads the team in goals (38), assists (49) and points (87) [leads the team in points by 14 while playing 5 less games] and leads in +/- (though useless) at +43...he's got all the tools...it's a matter of putting it all together...he's a strong skater, good vision, scoring touch, plays pretty physical game when he wants...lot of tools, but the toolbox isn't fully pieced together yet...rated as Anaheim's #2 prospect...
EDIT: tough to knock off the puck as well when he's on his game...when he's not on it, meh...

So where exactly was Kunitz playing, line-wise for the ducks?
Where do you think he'll play for the pens?

Do you know anything more about the kid, Jesse?
I noticed some modest OHL numbers and he's signed to an entry level deal. Obviously, he's a big kid.
I like Kunitz and he's got a reasonable cap hit for his talent and what he can bring to the top 6.

This is awesome. One of my best friends played junior with Tangradi and knows him well.
Best of luck Ryan

Still don't feel we have a winger for Sidney though. Kunitz will help that line being a power forward

This is a good deal, so long as Whitney never maxes out to his potential. If he improves and becomes decent, I like it. If Whitney ever truly finds himself, though, we may regret this. Of course, if Tangradi is as good as he looks, we may not care

Wow, nice trade IMO. I don't see him alot but what i've seen I like Kunitz. Probably good for some veteran leadership too as he is 28/29ish. Last two years he had 50/60 points with 25/21 goals. Thats not too shabby, plus we also got what seems to be a solid prospect. Good Job Shero.

Pens are down to six defensemen now. Gogo should be called up soon, I'm guessing.

Thanks Mikey. Those stats look good. A marked improvement from 07-08.
The team is definately better with Kunitz. Will be interesting to see if Satan gets moved up to play RW with Kunitz and Crosby.

Tangradi played 14 less games because he was on the U.S World Junior team. He was the guy who stuck his stick out from the bench and hit the Canadian player skating by celebrating. I saw him play a lot last year in the OHL playoffs.
Belleville is currently sitting first in the OHL's Eastern Conference, so a long playoff run is probably on the horizon. Maybe we'll get to see him in another Mem Cup this year, though it is going to be tough to beat Windsor to get there.
