The way I see it, Kunitz can't be any worse than Dupuis or Minard on Sid's wing, and he has scored 20+ goals in the past. Seems to have decent speed, but for some reason I thought he was bigger than 5' 9".
Getting rid of Whitney was a no-brainer. He was killing the Pens as they're trying to make the playoffs, and I didn't see his game improving anytime soon. Tangradi looks to be a good prospect, excepting the fact that he's from Philthadelphia.

Tangradi struggles with some confidence issues, but he's a grinding power-forward. Not a great shot, mostly a garbage guy. Got some good moves in his bag. Overall, he just bowls people over. Not only is he tall, he's got some mass to him. Sees the ice will. Really gets in the boards to battle. Will drop the gloves when necessary. Doesn't really take well to getting beaten to a puck.
Overall, not much of a shooter. Real north/south kid. Actually has good awarness and vision. Always hypes his own playmaking ability, which is actually quite underrated.

Where do you think he'll play for the pens?
He was playing mostly on the 2nd line with the Ducks, though I think he started the year on the 1st line. He plays bigger than his just his size, has a Cup, and brings some solid leadership along with his pretty good stats. I can see him with Malkin and Sykora right away. I think Fedo likely will stay with Crosby and who knows who will be on the other wing? Dupuis maybe.

Other news, Sidney not at practice today.

When on ice, Sid gets the new toy winger.

I think Whitney will do fine in that environment. Now, if he had been moved to a Canadian team or NYR, look out. Maybe he'll regain his offense and his defense won't be so noticeable in the future. I have my doubts about that, but good luck Ryan Whitney against some of those Western teams you'll be seeing more of.

Sid needs to get healthy quick if he wants to gel with this guy for the rest of the playoff push.

Put him with Pronger or Niedermayer and I think he defense will be a lot less noticeable.

I don't like the trade in that he's probably selling Whitney at his lowest value. They get decent production from Kunitz and a guy who probably won't be ready to seriously contribute for 2-3 years, if he does. I'm not disappointed in moving Whitney, but I'm not doing cartwheels over the return either.
If his poor play would continue next season, his value would drop even lower. I think it was a fair deal at this time.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdis ... ?pid=96610We get a decent winger in Kunitz, but i really dont like 3.75mills per year.. Overpaid -but i hope he can be at least 25 goals per season scorer
Whitney was surplus on our defense and his play was the reason he was traded, otherwise it would be Goligoski who would be gone..
Seriously guys, 20-30 goals a year is 3mill plus in the NHL. I mean we aer all looking for Sykora to get in that range, and while I am not saying that Kunitz is as good as Sykora, once Sykora signs his new deal, that's what he is going to cost. You aren't getting proven 20+ goal scorers who are 28 for less than 3mm/year.

I really like this deal. We traded from our strength (offensive dmen) and helped our weakness (top 6 forward and prospect forward with some grit).
All-in-all Shero did a good one here. Goes to show you how you can quickly fall out of favor with an injury and someone else proves themselves as being worthy, the case of Gogo doing a good job of filling in for Whits.
Best of luck Whitney!

We've got to be honest and realistic about this. Whitney was our best, most tradable asset. Shero was able to obtain immediate help in Kunitz and was able to get a much needed chip for the future. He simply could not afford not to get good prospect for Whitney, given the Salary cap structure. I'd have loved a first line winger as much as the next guy, but I don't know how we could have fit one within the cap.
This rates as a good trade in my book.

Duck Fans are furious with Tangradi being in this trade. He's basically number two in the OHL behind Tavares. i went on the ducks boards to see what they were saying and they were saying that Kunitz had been on the 2nd line, im not sure with who, but that Tangradi was supposed to be the real deal.
