I now know that the mayor is right, this IS a basketball town. NBA would do well here. Screw the pens.

Weak? Come on... give us our Props...
By the way, I get a real chuckle outta Pitt fans making fun of couch burnings... I read where after superbowl sunday the Pittsburgh Fire Department had issues with burnng couches in Oakland!

Storming your court after beating the 9th ranked team when you're the 18th ranked team is weak.

You obviously didn't see the game between the same two teams at the Pete a on Feb 9th. The then 14th ranked Panthers beat the then 9th ranked Mountaineers and pandamonium abounded.
You Pitt fans have a real 'holier than thou' thing going when it comes to WVU don't you?
MrKnowNothing wrote:pfim is right. Storming the court in this situation is lame. I like Pitt, but they aren't my favorite college team. I didn't even see this game, but the victory did not call for a storming of the court. Had this been a Big East championship or semifinal game, ok, I can see that.

Storming the court/field is pretty much lame in any situation, act like you have been there before, plus its extremely dangerous. Wow, do I sound old.
Anyways, I think the fans in WVU stormed the court more as a celebration of the senior class that played its final home game tonight than just beating Pitt.

You're not old, I wouldn't have done it 10 years ago, and I wouldn't do it now...
I think they were celebrating the fact that they're guaranteed not to see Nova or UConn in the Big East Quarterfinals.
So how far do you see Pitt going this year? I have not had nearly enough time to watch enough college basketball to feel like I have a real chance in my bracket so I will ask for help from people who have seen a lot of Pitt this year.
I also have heard a lot of talk lately about how the move to two guard has been beneficial to Krauser and Pitt this year, I always thought in the past that Pitt would have been better off if Krauser had the ball less but that he was probably the point guard out of necessity. Like I said though I have seen very little of Pitt this year so I could be way off on that thought.
rasbatch wrote:so the students I'm gonna say ran onto the court, not really STORMED it. Ok this wasn't some great win, but it was the last home game, senior night of a team that has given students alot to cheer about going back to last year. It wasn't mayham and destruction it was a relatively civil celebration. I'm 40 soon to be 41 and there wasn't anything wrong with what went on. So fix yourself a nice cup of warm milk, take your gerital, fire up your electric blanket and curl up with a nice lawrence welk video cause that was tame not lame. I'm gonna have to agree with Expat there really is this holy than thou attitude when it comes to WVU from Pitt fans, and I guess that helps make it a great rivalry. I give you this Pitt is a much better team than was expected this year, with credit due to Dixon.
pfim wrote:This is tough to say because Krauser may be my favorite player in the post-Willard era, but this team will be better next year when they figure out an 8 or 9 man rotation (assuming Gray stays his last year). Krauser had a lot to do with tonight's loss, he pressed way too much in crucial situations, which really isn't like him.
Still, I don't think there's a less appreciated senior leader in college basketball than Carl Krauser. People see the X and the hot dogging and get the wrong idea about Carl Krauser. I truly think he is the bridge between the rebuilding of the program and what lies ahead of this team. He bought into Howland, Dixon and Knight and has tought more talented players how to play the game.
Sorry, bit of a tangent...This year, I think they matchup favorably with teams like Nova, WVU and Duke, because they can throw guard after guard after their best players. Starting Degroat has been a mistake for most of the season, I think Dixon is trying to reward a good kid from a tough background who works hard everyday, he is really better coming off the bench. I think they will struggle against teams who have a strong front court game, like an Iowa or OSU, due to depth. I think their ranking is justified, and they will advance two rounds in the tournament considering the teams they will be facing will likely be guard-oriented.
