Jesse (or others), who the ^%$& is Kyle Rank?

Postby eastonpensfan on Mon Jun 11, 2007 6:06 pm

Kyle Rank was just signed to an AHL contract after playing at St. Lawrence. He is already 24 years old so he's an overage player.

What's his game like?

According to what I'm seeing, the Islanders signed him to an ATO and it didn't pan out.

Apparantly we liked what we saw because we just inked him.

I just meant, is he a 2-way guy, a goal scorer, playmaker, power forward?

I thought you might know because of your good college scouting.

The fact that he has an AHL contract means that he may start the season in the ECHL, like Jensen, wallace, or McLean did this past year.

epf, you might have seen this already, but just in case you did not here is Bombulie's take on Rank:

Here's the word on newest Penguin Kyle Rank. Center. ECAC defensive forward of the year and plays like it (i.e. good penalty killer). Decent size (6-1, 190) and will go to the net. Excellent golfer (led St. Lawrence's team with a 74 scoring average). Scouting report courtesy Mike Fornabaio, who saw him play 10 games with Bridgeport at the end of last season.

Thanks. I noticed that was posted on JB's blog this morning. That's a very similar role to what Stephen Dixon had been doing (except Dixon is 2" shorter). Last year, Dixon found a goal-scoring touch, placing 2nd among returnees in goal-scoring to only Jonathan Filewich.

This signing may be a sign that Dixon is now in a top-6 role and Rank will take his place on the lower lines.

Im glad to see that Rank is a good golfer...i was worried about how that would effect the team if he wasnt.

The team does a lot of team bowling things when they need a break, so that would be more impressive if he could bowl well.
