People tend to forget how inconsistent the Rangers have been this season. They can look great one game, and then play like dirt the next 3 games.

They have good depth up front, but we have much more speed and firepower.

Our defensemen are better than theirs, but they play a solid defensive system.

MAF vs. King Henrik is going to be a fun thing to watch.

I want to see Avery on his ass the entire series.

If the Pens play well the shouldn't lose to anyone. If they lose to the Rangers it will be because they played poorly, not because the Rangers dominated.

Amen . . . plus, do not underrate coaching in a series like this, from the matchups to the adjustments. I've been a Therrien critic who gave him props for a good job in round one. Others have been unabashed and absolute Therrien defenders. Here's a time that I sincerely hope that I'm wrong, because that only would enhance the Pens chances of winning.

The series will come down to the Pens ability or lack thereof to beat the Rangers trap. The Rangers can't stack up to the Pens from a pure talent perspective.

Pens PP better play well. If we're going up against a trap we have to capitalize when we have the extra man.

PK will be big too of course....since the Rangers don't score a ton of goals 5-on-5.

Top forwards:

Jagr, Drury, Gomez / Crosby, Malkin, Hossa;

Advantage: Pens- Talented and seasoned yes, but Crosby and Geno are the two best players in the world and Hossa is a top 10 forward in the league. This is no contest.

Defensemen:

Staal, Backman, Tyutin, Mara, Rozsival, Malik / Gonchar, Gill, Orpik, Letang, Whitney, Scuderi

Advantage: Pens- Pittsburgh's defense is much more offensively gifted and is deeper top to bottom.

Goalies:

Ludvquist / MAF

Advantage: Rangers- I will give the edge to New York here just based on experience. Even though I don't think any goalie is playing better than MAF right now.

Pens PP vs Rangers PK:

Advantage: Pens- No PK can skate with the Pens PP when it is clicking.

Rangers PP vs Pens PK:

Advantage: Draw- Pens PK has been great lately while (correct me if I am wrong) the Rangers PP is average. But, the Pens PK has been poor all year on the road.

Pens are the more talented and faster team, and should win this series. I think it will play out a lot like the Rangers/ Sabres series last year. The Rangers were good and a tough team, but Buffalo was just more talented and was a lot quicker. Same deal here.

Pens in 6.

bad call,

they are 0-4 against the Habs.

They were outshot in total pretty badly over the season series and the flyers had terrible goaltending.

I was looking forward to seeing the Habs get killed by the Rags but i guess i can live with a Pittsburgh Roast of the Canadians!

uhh...why?

Stanley Cup Champions don't sit back and say "OMG we better play so-and-so otherwise its going to be tough!" There is no easy path to the Cup and if this team has the intestinal fortitude...they can beat anybody.

Like good ol' #25 said on MM today, teams should be worried about playing us, not the other way around...

Exactly. You've got to beat the best to be the best. And I think the Rangers are the next best in the East to us. They are the ones who should be afraid.

In the entire series, or per period?

Both...maybe this should be a drinking game....everyone chugs a beer everytime it is brought up that Mark and Jordan are brothers.

Good idea. Also, take a sip every time the announcers mention Jagr played for the Pens. Take 5 sips when they say who the Pens got for Jagr.

I'd like to, but that's usually when the beer comes back up...

Avery really got into Brodeur's head. I am surprised Marty would let the world know:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/04222008/sports/devils/brodeur_too_tired_to_play_for_canada_107584.htm

It is nonsensical that this sideshow circus clown got into the head of a guy that had been one of the most mentally tough netminders in the NHL.

its not that we are playing the rangers, its how much it sucks to play them this round. i think the rangers would definitely beat the habs and that was my ultimate goal to see the pens have home ice in the conference finals.

yeah, the pens can beat them, yeah...but they are also the only rested team in the east so it sucks to play them now.
