If Malkin does NOT come here next season

If Malkin does not head to the Burgh for the start of the 06 season...

would you trade his rights for some impact right away?
I am sure someone would bite and try to get that phenom in the NHL.

I believe after the 06-07 season, he re-enters the draft.

This team is going nowhere next year anyway. You simply cannot ever trade away talent like that, no matter how tempted you might be.

That's a tough question.

If it was definite that he didn't want to come over, yes. Otherwise, no.

His value is extremely high. He has skills that just can't be replaced in a trade for several players. But, if he won't come over, he won't come over, and the Pens should get whatever they can for him.

Hopefully they won't have to worry about this. He has the potential to become a phenom.

But when does he re-enter the draft if he remains un-signed.

That has to be an issue. We don't own his rights till the second coming.

If it is in fact till the end of next season, you would almost have to deal his rights.
I mean are we just going to let him go, then try and re draft him? LOL...no..
I would hate to see this talent elsewhere, but there is going to be a point if he is not here next year on what the hell to do with him.

They shouldn't venture much into the free agent market anyway. That experiment failed miserably. Work the kids and go the trade route. Working a trade for this year's 1st rounder might net 2 quality wingers.

The only way he wont come over is if the league never gets a IHHHHL or wahtever the **** its called in place. When they do the Pens will pay whatever it takes plus the rookie minimum. Malkin wants to play here next season so im sure thats enough to make it happen.

The only reason I would trade his rights is if Malkin wanted to stay in Russia for a few more years. Of course, he has said multiple times that he wants to play here next season. Hopefully the Pens have set aside some funding in the very possible event that they will have to pay a high price for Malkin.

I can see the Russian Ice Hockey Federation trying to bleed a lot of cash out of Pittsburgh for Malkin to come over.

If we wind up paying a boatload to get him here we will not be venturing much at all in the free agent market

we should have atleast a little bit of free cash now with mario and ziggy retiring, plus some vet movements.
