4-6 would be a nice start considering the teams we're playing and the lack of Malkin. I'll be very surprised if he ends up missing that many, though. He'll probably miss six or seven at most, hopefully less. If the Pens can just hang close to winning half of those, I'll be happy.

1 philadelphia (home) - loss in OT (only because of the rivalry and home opener atmosphere)
2 detroit (home) - loss
3 rangers (away) - loss
4 carolina (home) - loss
5 new jersey (home) - loss
6 islanders (away) - win
7 columbus (home) win
8 new jersey (home) - loss
9 philadelphia (away) - win (sid always steps it up against them especially in philly)
10 los angeles (away) - win
i think this leaves them at about 4-5-1. not great but not awful. up for debate.

Flyers - Loss (close, probably over time loss) 4-5
Red Wings - Loss 2-5
Rangers - Win 5-4
Carolina - Loss 3-5
Devils - Loss - 1-4
Islanders - Win 6-3
Blue Jackets - Win 5-4
Devils - Loss 2-4
Flyers - Win 5-4
Kings - Lose 2-4
4-5-1... Same as vjx67 I guess

it's hard to tell, but something like 4-6 or 3-7 sounds about right.

Let's see here, a 10 game absence for Malkin. I'm going to go out on a limb and say 4-5-1, or 4-4-2. But that they win the opener, and they win in Philly, since Sid's amazing against Philly.

Could be 10-0, could be 0-10. Could also be 8-2 or 3-7. Or 4-4-2, 3-2-5 or 2-6-2. Even 9-1, 5-1-4 or 6-3-1 is entirely possible. Maybe 1-4-5. 5-2-3? 7-3?
Good thing those games will actually be played.

1 philadelphia (home) - Win 4-1 (No way they contain Crosby on opening night)
2 detroit (home) - Loss 2-3
3 rangers (away) - Win 2-0
4 carolina (home) - Win 4-2
5 new jersey (home) - Loss 2-5
6 islanders (away) - Loss 2-4
7 columbus (home) - Win 6-1
8 new jersey (home) - Loss 2-3
9 philadelphia (away) - Win 5-2
10 los angeles (away) - Loss 3-4
So I'm guessing 5-5. blah

I will be ticked and confused if we beat Carolina and take 2 out of 2 from the Flyers and lose to the Islanders.

1) Philadelphia-loss- Fluery blows it in he shootout.
2) Detroit-win- We usually play them tough.
3) Rangers-win- We always have played well in MSG.
4 Carolina- loss- They have owned us since moving. Orpik is ambushed.
5) New Jersey-loss- Back down to earth.
6) Islanders- loss- They have owned us since 1975.
7) Columbus-loss- Malkin comes back and is hurt again. Gilbert Brule scores a hat trick.
8) New Jersey-win- Crosby nets 6 points.
9) Philadelphia- win- Crosby scores 5 more
10) Los Angelos- loss- We never win there.

4 wins (and a couple OL points) going into the West Coast trip on game 10 (when Malkin could reasonably be expected back, and any amateur tryouts would cease) would probably be reason for elation.
I see us around 7 points going out West.

My thoughts exactly on these two games, ziggo. We would probably lose them with or without Malkin. I don't know how many times I stayed up late to watch one of the games in LA, only to be disappointed. And the Islanders..UGH! Jason Blake tortures the Pens!

Way to aim high guys!
I could see them being right around 5-4-1 maybe 4-5-1.....depends on how they start those first couple games. If they get some MO, they could get on a roll....
Of course it depends on the goaltending too!

Except last year we went 4-0-4 there. That's 12 points in 8 games. They never beat us in regulation. Crosby had like 7 goals and 9 assists in those 8 games.
I don't know why you guys are so terrified of the Atlantic. Except for maybe Philly, every other team in the Atlantic is going to be worse than last year, and we went 12-14-6 against them last year. And yet we're going to start with 6 losses to them? Excuse me.

I was laughing when I read this too, however it is probably the most realistic prediction.
