I just had a thought - I hate Gonchar. He's the laziest, wimpiest hockey player I've seen since Larry Murphy. Hey, I didn't say it was a good thought, just a thought.

Horrible thought, at least the second half of it. Larry Murphy was awesome.

But anyways Gonchar does suck. I heard someone call him "captain hook" on the old board. There couldn't be a more fitting nick-name for him!

I agree about Murph until the last two seasons with the Pens...then he turned into a Nancy.

Captain Hook is perfect. Especially short-handed. How many 4 on 4s did we end up with when PPs were going because of him?

Here's a question - do you think maybe he's sandbagging because of the Olympics?

Nah, I think he has had the hardest time adapting to the new NHL. He could get away with those hooks two years ago, but not now.

And I honestly think he has played better recently. I think that because he's getting involved in the offense more by going deeper into the offensive zone. (If hes in traffic and messes up, its not near as bad as messing up at the point by yourself!)

Now all he has to learn to do is let a person go if he beats you. Have some confidence in our young, talented goaltender! But who knows if he ever will...

How dare you compare Gonchar to Larry Murphy. He was maybe the best Penguin d-man of all time and he's a Hall of Famer. To even try to link Gonchar to him is ludicrous.

...I heard it while listening to the radio broadcast of the Pens-Rangers game the other night. Funnily enough, I was in the New York Public Library only 8 blocks away from the carnage at MSG and felt very tempted to find each and every Penguin player (except Crosby) and beat them up. I am sure I could too since they are professional athletes and I am a slothful film scholar. They are a soft team though....

Ill probally get beat down faster than matt murley here but I think Gonchars play has improved over the last 10 games for the most part especially when he is paired with Orpik and not someone like Melichar

think we can lure Paul Coffey out of retirement, and run him through a time machine back 15 years? Or find a player that fits his stats back then? Murphy was ok in that regard, but since the two of them, we've been hard pressed to come close to such a D man. I thought Zubov might have been one, but we got hosed on that deal that sent him out of town...

It has. But he is still far away from earning his money. I was very excited about CP signing Gonchar in the summer but he has been the biggest free agent bust ever for the Pens. He is slow, soft and uninterested. Someone should kick his ass in practice to get his game going. Send Cairns after him - he shouldn't have a problem catching him.

That's exactly it, he just doesn't get it! Here we are 50 games into the season and he still hasn't figured out how to play in the new NHL.

One goal in 37 games for Sergei!

i've seen ric jackman and sergei play this year...both reputations for
weakness in defensive zone BUT considering the many games missed;
Jackman is only 3 points behind Sergei. Gonchar doesn't add anything
good to the pens PP. He's possessed by evil spirit.
