That kind of highlight reel in just his first season in the NHL?
I'm not going to go out and say that he'll break 99's records, but he may just have more highlight reel footage than anyone else over the course of a career.
That was almost 5 minutes of footage, and the season isn't over yet!
Multiply that by 12-15 years and you have over an hour of straight footage!
Amazing!

Sure there is. He could blow out an ACL or Crosby could hire Jeff Gillooly.rasbatch wrote:there is no way this guy doesn't win the calder, just no way[/code]

Another smiley squatter, just like Daniel.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:Wow!

And that Ovechkin kid is pretty good. At the start of the Yahoo fantasy hockey league season, he wasn't in there. Any players added are alwasy subject to waiver priority, so when It was my turn to decide what position I wanted tp draft, I chose last, knowing I would end up getting first dibs.
I am a supergenius.

rookie overload
This year's group of rookies will long be remembered. Just sawjmh70 wrote:It's a shame that the Calder will seemingly be decided based on which player makes the highlight reel more often.
this NHL awards gala will be in vancouver 6/22. Hopefully
Alexander Ovechkin will make all efforts to be there in person if (when) the winner.
Sidney Crosby should not be disappointed if / when coming in
2nd to AO. Besides Sid will be the pens rookie/MVP/ points leader
and few of those other last game awards.

NHL should go back to having all-star based on east / west so
that hockey fans can see Sid & AO on the same team...

groovy
nhl all-star game ... out of site out of mind...Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:Penny, I think that is the format for next year. I like the East/ West way better. It would suck to have Sid and Malkin play against each other in the coming years.
good to know for 2007.
On to next debate, who will win that all-star MVP?

AO is great... but he is a one trick pony. He really is only interested in scoring goals. Near the end of games (last 5 minutes) he will hit and as he is big, they look good... but is only has one thing on his mind.
He OFTEN starts to celebrate goals that haven't scored yet. a lot of the time the goalie makes the save while AO's arms are halfway up in the air. I am extremely surprised that no media people ever mention this.

AO did that in his 1st visit to pittsburgh. No veteran has
taken him aside to straighten him like they with Sid?

I'm in such a bad space. My favorite player isn't on my most favorite team right now. I think this is the first time in my life I've been in this position. I can take solace in the fact that we do have Crosby tho' & will have Malkin, who some have already said is as good if not better than Ovechkin. My next question; is that possible? As a Penguins fan, I'll sure be happy if he's even as good.Jerez wrote:He is simply fantastic. Most exciting goal-scorer in the game right now.
I'd love to have him on our team! But I'm selfish -- I want AO and Sid! Oh, and Malkin, too. And Fleury, and and and...
With all the talent emerging, what a terrific time to be a fan of hockey!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 02286.htmlThe puckheads know who Malkin is, and the non-hockey crowd will find out soon about the Pittsburgh Penguins' No. 2 pick in the NHL's 2004 entry draft. Malkin is a 19-year-old multifaceted center in Russia's elite league, and he is expected to play for Pittsburgh next season.
"Alex is very talented, for sure, but who knows how it goes?" said Alexander Kuzmak, an NHL commentator in Moscow who is serving as the Russian team's press officer in Turin.
"But in Russia, Malkin is considered even more talented than Ovechkin. He's not just scorer. He can create the play. He can do everything.
