THe thing about Houston, if Alexander buys the team, then it doesn't matter. But yes, if the LG looks to keep the team or sell it, then Houston is not a good choice.edog wrote:I found the following agreement through a Winnipeg web site. Specifically pay attention to the NHL team rights versus the NBA team rights. This agreement is heavily slanted towards the Rockets.
Now include Houston in this mess...

I'll say this, a quiet Mark Cuban is the deal-making Mark Cuban.
Would you agree dear Admin?
Re: Houston....
They don't have enough time to do a sale & get the price they want. You are talking a few months minimum to complete a franchise sale. The NHL has to know by March where the team is playing so they can make up a schedule. Alexander might be interested in a team, but why would he be interested in paying Mario's price when he holds all the cards in Houston?newarenanow wrote:THe thing about Houston, if Alexander buys the team, then it doesn't matter. Interesting, because this meshes with Savran's report yesterday that certain parties in the current Lemieux Group are interested and are forming a group to look into buying the team when this arena thing is ironed out.will just warn you that this came from Bob (BOZO) Smizik last night on the nightly sportscall on the CW but he said he heard that Burkle wants to own the team after they get a new arena,Also Pompeani said he's heard that MC is REALLY working hard to buy this team behind the scenes & quietly
Could something like this be happening...
Burkle and the Pens ownership are trying to make the Pens deal as profitable as possible. With the full control of the hockey and non-hockey revenue streams going to the team, talk that the team's per-year contribution to the financing plan has been cut to $1.5 million a year over thirty years, and a short-term rent-free stay in Mellon Arena also with total revenue control, the Pittsburgh deal is capable of bringing in significantly more revenue over the life of its lease than would the deal in KC.
Burkle isn't an idiot...if the revenue streams between Pgh and KC are comparable (and they should be, given that they are similar markets), Burkle knows this deal could easily trump the KC deal. In fact, the arena deal here could turn out to be a significantly profitable venture. Once they maximize the value on the arena deal, they sign up for the deal and the team stays here.
Relatively soon thereafter, Lemeiux sells off his share in the ownership, whether it be to Burkle, some combination of the current investors, or to a group headed by Mark Cuban...or even some combination of all three. Thus, the team never really goes back on the market because they can finally start making good money off the new arena.

That would be the ultimate good scenario. The Pens staying, with a great arena deal, and local investors who care about the team.Stoosh wrote:Interesting, because this meshes with Savran's report yesterday that certain parties in the current Lemieux Group are interested and are forming a group to look into buying the team when this arena thing is ironed out.will just warn you that this came from Bob (BOZO) Smizik last night on the nightly sportscall on the CW but he said he heard that Burkle wants to own the team after they get a new arena,Also Pompeani said he's heard that MC is REALLY working hard to buy this team behind the scenes & quietly

I think this will come down to the NHL allow or block the move based on the deal called "sweetened Plan B". Now someone quickly tell me why the currently proposed deal is NOT viable without the parking and development revenues. Would the Pens lose so much money that suddenly the entire business deal becomes not economically viable?
Yep, & the facts haven't changed numerous times either....Once lived in Pittsburgh wrote:We've already been thru this numerous times.Rico81 wrote:All of this crap is frustrating as hell to sit back and watch! The politicians have publicly established that their plan is better than KC's. Now the Pens need other leverage, in the form of Houston who has an owner (Les Alexander) who doesn't care about percentages of revenues to attract a hockey team.
If they can convince the politicians that Alexander is serious about bringing an NHL team to the Toyota Center, there's not much the politicians can counter with.

Except a better offer.....however, Mario has to hope beyond hope that Alexander is even interested. Given the soap opera that has gone on since Day 1 with this, that isn't too certain....pfim wrote:The politicians have publicly established that their plan is better than KC's. He stated publicly in 2005 that he's met with Gary Bettman and wants a team.edog wrote:Except a better offer.....however, Mario has to hope beyond hope that Alexander is even interested. Actually, they have. The populations, regional incomes, projections for the future AND facilities all have changed in this game.
Thanks.
