Senator Santorum says

slots money should go toward financing a new arena
doesn't see how a new arena can be done without it
will ask for Federal money to help connect the arena district to the city

just by the tone of his talk, I get the feeling Lynn Swann could be making this a political topic because Santorum mentioned he wasn't happy with the way things were going around the city and state.

My favorite thing about the new board is that we lost MM. :-)

I hate the political game but at this point, there's no other way than to hope the Republicans make it a campaign issue against Ed Rendell.

Now this all has to get into the newspapers somehow. Madden's show isn't exactly a mainstream media outlet.

Santorum would back his grandma into MM if it thought it would give him a chance to win the next election. As far as him sneaking an arena as a pork project into some future fed appropriations bill, that is pure BS, BS that he mentions it, it would be shamefull pork barrel BS if he tried.
Santorum is an extreme right wing wacko that has no clue what hockey is, nor does he care.

Z - Ahh.... what?

Santorum said NOTHING about $290 million worth of funding into the budget. He was talking about connecting the Hill District to downtown, not the friggin arena.

I believe Santorum has attended hockey games at the arena, so there goes your theory.

I dislike his politics but I also dislike a ton of Democrats too and your post is so very obvious to be rooted in your Democrat beliefs.

The news of Santorum making a statement is important because Republicans, namely Swann, will make it a campaign issue to beat the Democrats locally.

No one is happy with O'Connor, Onorato, and Rendell refusing to talk about casino funding the arena, rather they want a Plan B that will involve public money.

If you don't think that is important... you've got issues.

I'm glad to see Santorum breaking ranks with the Boyer's think tank on this issue. It would be great if he makes it a campaign issue. Maybe he has some polling data that shows SWPA wants slots $$$ to pay for a new arena.

Just in case anybody is getting optimistic (I think it's against board rules) you should keep in mind that Santorum is a republican. All of the assmonkeys involved in this fiasco are democrats. If Santurom were a democrat, he would be WAYYYYyyy more appolagetic towards their stance or lack of. By saying what he is saying he is strengthening his party and thus helping his own political future.

Once again, self preservation rules the world.

God forbid that politics play any role in this. I mean, Rendell would never stoop so low as this, nor would Murtha (the number one pork barrel guy of all time).

Thanks for setting the record straight on this complex issue.

Mario. Santorum is like all people who sell out for political power; but he can be used to embarrass the governor into explaining why public funds
must be used for all-purpose bldg when an OPTION exists that will
not put additional financial burden on PA residents.

I don't care what it is, as long as it gets Pittsburgh a new arena and keeps the Pens in town. Santorum just got my vote come November.

I usually vote Republican but was going to vote against Santorum this Nov. b/c of his recent crazy comments and views.

But I'll consider voting for Santorum if he gets behind the Penguins proposal.

Most assuredly, that is what he is banking on. But I don't care; I'd rather live with the Pens and Santorum, than lose the Pens. Whoever replaces Santorum is just going to be another corrupt MF'er anyhow.

i don't care to discuss politics here.

I was just explaining how Santorum can gain my vote by supporting plans for a new arena in the Burgh.

Oh, yippee, the biggest psychopath in the senate supports an arena...that's some great PR to have.

Santorum is a *****bag. This guy, on many occasions, has equated gays
with those that commit beastiality, has said that gay couples shouldn't legally be allowed to raise children, AND brought home a premature-born, dead fetus to show his kids because he thought they should learn from it. And that's only the beginning of where this guy stands...he wants to take away womens rights too.
 All true, but that just shows you how desperate we all are for optimism.

Also, I doubt Santorum could walk 5 steps in 99.9% of the populations shoes. He has no idea how life outside of his sheltered existance operates. Sadly, his offspring will be in politics forever and we are inching ever closer to the end of humanity. Have a nice day! :D

I'll second that!

As for Santorum being a pathetic politician...isn't that a redundant phrase?

Look at it this way; do whatever needs doing to get an arena built & save the Pens in Pittsburgh. Once that's done, then you use your right as a citizen to vote & get rid of Santorum. Just don't make him think it's because he backed the slots 'cuz it sends the wrong message to the other politicians & they'll be turning tail. :D
Remember, once the Pens are gone, they're gone!

So how are you any better? Persecuting him for his beliefs? Whether you agree with some of them or not that's how he feels, and he has his reasons for believing what he does.

I get sick of people trying to be PC by not insulting those who are different, but at the same time shooting down be who believe things that are different that themself.

Disagree if you want. I'm not defending his positions, but I'll defend his right to believe what he believes without being labled as "crazy."

Are you serious? The difference is that our friend Tikkanen doesn't want to legislate his beliefs. Santorum is certainly entitled to his bigotry, but he most definitely is not entitled to make his beliefs law.

To summarize: he has the right to think what he wants, but I have the right to call him a ******* for it.
