In my office, we have a whole mess of CAT5 coming into a couple switches and none of the cables are mapped to which computer they are going to. I need to know where everything is going. Is there some type of tool that will ping all the compouters that are on the network, return results by computer name and this way I can unplug a cable from the switch, re-ping and see who now does not have access?

Location: Source, Destination, Protocol, Port, size, sequence number, check sum... Yep, that about covers it.

Nothing quite that simple. But with a few additional steps you can do it.

Is it a Cisco Switch? Do you have the console password?

If not, how many PC's and Printers are connected? Is there anything else connected?

We have two Cisco switches with one piggy backing off the other and then into a Cisco PIX firewall and then through the Cisco router. Other than that I don't know too much else because I'm just now starting to play with this stuff at work at least.

Ok... log into the Cisco switches... do a Show Mac-Adress address-table command that will get you a list of all the Mac-Addresses and the corresponding ports.

Are you sure there's no Router between the Switches and Firewall? If not that makes it a little tougher.
