Would it hurt to have him back as a Pen as a power play specialist on a low salary contract?

Pretty ethnocentric comment if you ask me... he wore it for the year his grandfather died in a Russian prison, 1968. My grandfather was shot (survived obviously) by the Germans in WW2. I would now by a MONEY WHORE if I worked with any germans?Dostoevsky wrote:Quite a difference, if you ask me.Penspal wrote:He wore 68 in memory of the Czech people being over run by the communists in 1968, but runs off to play for big $$$ in Russia.

To see Jagr back in Burgh would be awesome,I think he still has what it takes,to be major contributor on Pens team, especially on PP!?
Malkin - Jagr together,mamma mia
Season between 65-70 pts for Jags.. 30 goals/40 assists!? Maybe 1 year - 1M deal could be enough to finish career here!

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I guarantee that is looking WAY tyoo much into a little thing, but I questioned all of this and ultimately Rossi in his reporting of it yesterday. Today I was looking at the "Official" Pens site (note the quotes due to THIS being the OFFICIAL site) and they have a link to the article written by Rossi. Now, in my memory, the Pens don't do this unless there is SOME validity to it...correct?

I could be wrong, though.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
Rossi only reported some quotes from Jagr reminicing (sp?) about his days in Pittsburgh, and that the Pens would like him to join them for their golf outing/reunion of the 90-91 teams. Maybe try to mend the fences. Nothing more, nothing less.Doogs wrote:I guarantee that is looking WAY tyoo much into a little thing, but I questioned all of this and ultimately Rossi in his reporting of it yesterday. People took off with it and started saying the Pens are looking to sign Jagr and it has blown up.
Not saying he may or may not resign with them, but it is funny how people take one completely different story and turn it into another.

columbia, you may be right, but if it is B.S> or leading then you would imagine not.
new, the article lead to the speculation and created the buzz in the way it was written. Yes, it said it was basically an invite for golf, but implied it was a first step. In what I read anyway.

To me, it implied that it was a first step to mending the fences between the Pens and Jagr. Jagr is one of the Pens greatest players that left on not so great terms.Doogs wrote:columbia, you may be right, but if it is B.S> or leading then you would imagine not.

I think now that most of the players from those early Cup teams are retired/going to retire, and celebrations for those teams will start popping up, I really think they want Jagr to be a part of that. Plus, I think they want to retire his number eventually.
Much like Bradshaw and the Steelers, it is great to have great former players come back.
I did not read anything into the Pens pursuing to sign him. They might be behind closed doors, but I did not read that at all in the article.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
The "validity" of the article is that he is talking about the Pens inviting Jagr to a golf outing. Nothing more. So, why would they not link it?Doogs wrote:I guarantee that is looking WAY tyoo much into a little thing, but I questioned all of this and ultimately Rossi in his reporting of it yesterday. All this Jagr coming back to play nonsense was started by pucks like us on the interwebz.
With that said, I sure hope they do offer him a contract and he comes back to play where he started! He still has it and would be a fantastic top-2 wing!

I don't really care if he returns but that article absolutely indicates that the pens were trying to sign him.

Rossi was trying to rile up the fans. He was putting stuff on Twitter like "what's the over/under on goals and points if Jagr comes back next year." Then he later tries to act like no I wasn't trying to imply anything, this is just about a golf outing. Rossi was acting like a turd and apparently must be bored so he tried to get another Jagr rumor to take off.

Re: Penguins want Jagr back?!
I just re-read the article. I, seriously, do not know where you read that they are trying to sign him. The closest are the opening paragraphs, but even still, there is no indication of trying to sign the player, just assumption on the writer's part.Idoit40fans wrote:I don't really care if he returns but that article absolutely indicates that the pens were trying to sign him.
Lol, then:Jaromir Jagr is without a contract to play hockey next season.
However, the Penguins -- seemingly the team still closest to his heart -- are planning to extend an offer that could be the first step on a path toward the grandest homecoming by a professional athlete in Pittsburgh since quarterback Terry Bradshaw symbolically rejoined the Steelers family in 2002.
The Penguins plan to invite Jagr to their annual summer alumni golf outing, which will serve as a reunion for members of the 1991 Stanley Cup championship club.

I'm with you - I saw this thread first - THEN read the article, and came away thinking, where are people coming up with the idea that they want to re-sign him?Pitts wrote:I just re-read the article. Well THAT I'll agree with - I saw the same things on twitter - but I certainly don't get that from the article.Tico Rick wrote:This is 100% true. 100%.Henry Hank wrote:Rossi was trying to rile up the fans. It's filled with suggestive phrases that could imply that they want to sign him. I think it's quite cleary the writer's intention to put that suggestion out there.
