It's offical: The new game thread sucks (possibly NHR?)

Post by Jerez »

I know, I know, it is truly wonderful to have a new board. (Thanks, RJ) But it's darn near impossible to follow the game thread after the fact. What I really miss about the old board (beautiful it was, Admin) is the ability to quickly peruse the whole game thread and find the interesting bits you want to read. Now all the one-liners are posts of their own, and they run on and on (pages and pages and pages). Thus it becomes a huge pain to even bother with it.

So now I don't know who was pissed at Eeyore's ridiculousness. (I don't even know what possible ridiculousness there may have been, since Center Ice had the MSG feed. I'm so sick of JD I can't even tell you...)

Now I don't know if anyone else felt there were bogus penalties called and real penalties ignored.

Don't know if anyone else thought Marc-Andre was doing a great job with what he had in front of him.

Ah, pity me. I mourn the old board for its simplicity. Such is life.

I think game threads are very hard to read as well. If we could have more posts showing per page that would help. I think the biggest downfall is not being able to post subjects without bodies to have quick one-liners possible.

Not sure what can be done.

I agree, I like this new board, but the major downside is not having the "tree" format. It would be great if we were to go to the format in one of the earlier test boards. The board has the same look, but the tree format when checks out the threads.

Hmm. Maybe a way to fix this would be to have an entire forum setup as the game forum. Then, everyone can make individual posts about the game which can then be replied to within.

I don't miss the tree format at all. Maybe because the OTSB (official team site board) doesn't have it. I think as people become more aware of the quote function and begin to use it, you'll miss the tree part less.

As far as Eeyore, I refer you to the following in case you missed it in the game thread:

Not a bad idea, but then that forum would need to be pruned every time there was a new game, wouldn't it? :?:

I don't know. Maybe there would be a way to close all topics from a previous game, thus giving them some sort of icon on the left and eliminating all commenting from that point on. Then, maybe once a week -- or after x number of games/days -- the forum could be completely overhauled.

Or. If space/time permit, Admin could make a new forum for each game, removing old forums after x number of games/days.

I'll be honest....

I know why the new board is needed, but I can't stand it. It's like every other message board on the net now. I miss the tree.

It will take some getting used to it, but I really miss the old board.

Great job though, Arj. It's a really good setup for the style.

Actually, I hate the quote format. Its a complete waste of space. With a tree, its obvious what you are replying to. The only reason you have to quote, is becouse the new board is like everyone shouting in a room, as opposed to nice little well contained discrete conversations and potential subconversation. Frankly, I hate this board. I support RJ because he needs to do it, but his design blows this one away. The little bells and whistles I could give two craps about compared with the ease of navigation and organization with the old design. The only plus is it keeps the trolls out. I think in all likelyhood, it will keep me from posting much as well. Especially game threads. They suck.

It's just another message board now. This is like... I don't know, a Billie Holliday record without scratches. And who really wants that?

I agree I could not even read it.
I made one post got flamed three times!
Of course the other board turned south this year too.
I liked the old board - you did not have to try to filter through pages of nothingness.
This board is just like the official board now.
Why open the thread just to see the same couple of kids try to run their post count up and flaming every other poster.
No thank you.

What ever happened to this tryout board ?

http://www.pookalooka.com/scripts/PensBoard3/index.php

I thaught it was perfect , it seems to have the same background as the current new one.

I miss the tree when I play catch up in the morning.

Poor poor poor Admin,
HE simply cannot win,

People wanted new format,
And you got exctly that.

Profiles, smileys, sub-forums too,
Everything improved and new.

But wait! Admin, it's more we want!
We want sigs, avatars, and penguin fonts!

After just two game threads, we decide
a whole new forum must be tried!

Give us this and give us that,
and penguin players in a chat!

And give free tickets to the games,
lest your forum be totally lame.

Do you get it now? It can be seen with ease,
PENGUIN FANS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE.

So sorry Admin, you do your best
And we all appriciate your work without rest

So let's back off and give Admin a life
And accept what we have without any strife!

Offical Threads

Post by Diddy »

I think with this new structure people will only post about the game with something of some kind of substance. Plus, with the way the old one was set up it wouldn't always be in chronological order. Meaning, if you scrolled down you could get replies to some posts under the main thread that are out of the time line, like the next day, right in the middle of the thread and not at the bottom.

With it now being like this you can literally read all the way through an Official Game Thread and it will flow along with the game. A post game fact will be at the end after all the game time talk. That to me is great because I never even bothered trying to read a game thread on the old board because it was like there was crap being posted all over the place on it. Just my 2 cents...

Maybe I'm tired after working night shift, but the game thread was extremely hard for me to follow this am. I don't see how it will majicall stop being a mis mash of random comments. I liked the old tree version better for sure now. It allowed more continuity of actual discussion and for skimming the random one line posts.

Nice rhyme Peter !
I´m not trying to annoy RJ, but for many years (almost 10 Years  ) I was accustomed to the "OLD" style board. It was not like the other boards (as if there ever existed other boards). The style, the color, hey the LGP family (BK, the Queen, The Saint, ...)

It was easy to browse, the mix between PR, NPR, NHR threads was, what made the difference. Now everything is separated and it takes longer to scan everything. Pearl Harbour here we come !

I´ve been mostly a lurker, given the time difference between Europe and the states, and the tree style was better for getting up to date.

I want to thank RJ for providing us with LGP, he dedicates a lot of time and money for this forum.

It is just the feeling in my belly that about 3-4 days ago a very good and familiar friend died and it´s hard to cope with it for now.

I will get over it, but it will take time.

Thanks again RJ for the board !!!
