Is Gonchar injured?

Does anyone recall Gonchar's style of play before this season? I've noticed him dropping his stick to one hand almost as soon as he can. It almost seems like he has an arm/shoulder injury. Did he always do this?

No. (I'm probably going to get flamed for this).

But the same person that told me Mario Lemieux was on Coumadin and would be hard pressed to return is the same person that told me at the time that Sergei Gonchar + One other player had shoulder problems.

That other guy turned out to be Zigmund Palffy.

I hate claiming "Inside Sources".

But this is something I let onto a few posters a few weeks ago.

Think back the home and home against Buffalo, right when MT took over.

Think of the home game, just before Overtime Gonchar was hit from behind into the boards, lost his lid and didn't know where he was.

Apparantly that reaggravated something he had been dealing with since camp.

I buy it, it explains alot about his eagerness to get rid of the puck.

And if it is, then my opinion of him will do a complete 180. I give him credit for trying to gut it out, realizing that he, at 50 percent, is still better than 100 percent of whoever would replace him. I give him credit for not whining about it to the press. If he is hurt, but wants to keep playing, then that tells me he really wants to show he deserves the big contract.

Of course, if he isn't hurt...

I think he came back too soon from his groin injury as well. My dad made a good point that if Gonchar looks bad in the Olympics then he is hurt, if not he just does not like playing in Pittsburgh.

I don't think he's been playing bad but he's a half step slow and that meand more holding penalties and less keep ins at the point.

He had 2 or 3 opportunities last night to take a stride or two in the neutral or offensive zone to attack a puck carrier and keep the play alive and he stood still. He's either hurt or he simply doesn't give a crap. I hope he hurt. Because if it's the latter, we're in trouble for the next 4 seasons.

I've never thought of him as a "heart & soul" type of player, but from watching him in Washington and Boston, I never got the impression that he'd be someone who would go through the motions, I have no info but I just have a feeling it's something else.

Was that he's tanking. Why, I have no idea. But how else can you explain that penalty on the PP, if he didn't do it on purpose? No player can be that stupid, can they?

That play looked iffy to me. I could buy the call, but it also looked as if the Ranger player fell into Gonchar, and Gonchar didn't have his feet set. But if he did pull him down with his right arm (as was called), could that be to try and minimize the fall? It really made it worse in reality, as the other guy landed on him. Too much speculation and not enough info. Without the injury talk, I thought it was just a bad play.
