CBC in Canada played part 2 of the Canada/Russia 72 Mini series tonight.
Just curious if any Americans had a Canadian sattellite and watched it?
This was quite possibly the greatest hockey series ever. It wasn't even hockey, it was war! It is one of the greatest events in Canadian hockey history. People took the day off work, schools watched the game, it was nuts.
I've read many books on this, and actually have the 8 game series on DVD. There are so many monumental events during this series, it's CRAZY. The Russians tried to cheat so bad, and tried to cause as much commotion off the ice for the Canadians. Canadian fans were arrested in Russia for cheering for Canada. They were stripped naked in their cells, shaved their heads, and sent home. The goal judges didn't want to acknowledge goals and woudln't turn the light on. The refs were awful, penalizing Canadian players non stop for nothing. The russians broke agreements they had with Canada regarding Referee selection, they called their hotel rooms in the middle of the night to disturb them, they stole the beer they brought over, they stole the steaks they brought over, they made up rules as they went along....and the list goes on and on.
What a GREAT job CBC did on this! The characters were bang on and it was well presented. If any of you get a chance to watch it, you really should. I taped it, and will hopefully have it transferred to DVD.
I'm just on such a hockey high right now, and I'm sure the Canadian fans on here can attest to feeling this way.
Any Americans catch the Canada/Russia 72 movie?

I saw a bit of part 1 on Sunday. It was funny to see how the team melted down after the game 1 loss and Sinden scratched the NYR line for game 2. It also was funny to see the granola loathing Dryden had of Canada's hockey culture. I was out of town Monday (and Tuesday) so I didn't see part 2.
As an aside it is the 2nd week in a row I've been out of town on a Monday and/or Tuesday and stayed at decent hotels (Courtyard) without OLN. This is a BS deal for the NHL. Many US based NHL fans without DirecTV and/or ExpressVu will be forced to leave their homes to watch the playoffs. It isn't a big deal a few times per week to go to sports bars, but 7 nights a week would be quite a grind for 2 months.
