Stats of the Year

Post by pfim »

Before the Thornton trade:

Glen Murray: 22 games played, 12 goals
Jonathan Cheechoo: 24 games played, 7 goals.

After the Thornton trade:

Glen Murray: 39 games played, 12 goals.
Jonathan Cheechoo: 54 games played, 44 goals.

One team eliminated from playoff contention, other from worst in the division to the playoffs.

Cheechoo just got his 50th and 51st goals last night, courtesy of Super Joe.

Sharks are the 6th seed now, and still have four games to play. The home-and-home against Vancouver this week should be very interesting (clutches tickets to Thursday's game). :D

Trading Thornton was a dumb move,
yes the Bruins were playing bad, and yes they had to make a move, but trading their Captain was not the solution,

They could have traded Samsanov, a free agent at the end of the year anways, and maybe some others, but Thornton is a franchise player, and they just seemed to dump him.

Apparently, the Bruins GM didn't even bother listening to other offers, San Jose was the first to offer, and he said yes.

Rumors have it that Chicago was interested as well, but never had a chance to even talk about players going to Boston, and the deal was done with San Jose......and they say CP is bad .... :)

Maybe that's why they're looking at Patrick as an upgrade.

Comments like this are silly. A GM pulling off a trade isn't like you sitting in front of your playstation and getting rid of Thornton. Certainly they knew what they could get, and there was talk within the organization before the trade.

Patrick has defintely not performed well lately and we can question a lot of recent moves and decisions. In theory, the GM has the final say, but to think that they can pull the trigger on a deal without talking to other teams or those within their organization is ridiculous.

Yeah, they have to try to consider everythign from what the incoming players will do to team chemistry, to finances, to contract status, everything. Some people look at trades as pure face value for face value... That works on Playstation, but not in real life.

I doubt Chicago could have given up more anyway. They never should have let Mike O'Connell trade him, everyone knew he was on his way out, even in November. Stuart is a good defenseman, the other two guys are incredibly replaceable.
