Of those, I believe only Kunitz' and CFA fan named? I thought Real Deal was the only thing Steigerwald successfully pushed, and the rest are what players have called eachother.shafnutz05 wrote:What about fan-given nicknames?Gaucho wrote:I thought line nicknames were a rather adolescent, strictly male kind of thing.

Isn't that more a "failed first overall pick" name drop? I don't think his time as a Penguins has anything to do with it. I feel extremely dirty for having defended this individual.canaan wrote:former penguin name drop. so clever. har har har. joe melichar.Godric wrote:Real talk - this thread sucks.

Re: LGP Member of the Day
Daigle didn't fail. He played over 600 NHL games over the course of 10+ years...he didn't live up to hype, sure, but he's probably incorrectly referred to as a "bust" more than any other player in hockey.
Hell, the Wings nearly gave up Steve Yzerman for him...
Though, I don't understand the relevance to the thread in the first place...

How did you not get that? are you serious? People were proclaiming it the best thread of all time... tongue in cheek and in good fun and I just tried to make a joke of my own tongue in cheek and just because it went over you're head.... you are trying to discredit me... I see how it iscanaan wrote:Sure you were lol

To me that's like people who say "we" when talking about their favorite team. Like, "Ooh, we just had a 15-game winning streak."shafnutz05 wrote:I have a pet peeve (irrational?) about a team's fans referring to players by the nickname their friends in the locker room use.Idoit40fans wrote:and the rest are what players have called eachother.

Re: LGP Member of the Day
Not really like that at all imo.... Pretty sure Paul Bissonette wants to be called Biznasty and if Players weren't comfortable with nicknames available for fans... they wouldn't use them in interviews or they would ask the media to stop.tifosi77 wrote:To me that's like people who say "we" when talking about their favorite team. I never heard that version of it. I heard Yzerman to Ottawa for Yashin + picks. Apparently the whole trade was Chris Osgood and Steve Yzerman to the Senators in exchange for Alexei Yashin, Damian Rhodes and Ottawa's first round picks in 1996 (1st overall, used on Chris Phillips) and 1997 (12th overall, used on Marian Hossa)mikey287 wrote:Daigle didn't fail. I've seen this before too...but Daigle was rumored in a lot of deals early on and Yzerman was heavily talked about in trade rumours throughout the 90's because it was thought he couldn't lead a team to the Stanley Cup...JS© wrote:I never heard that version of it. Going into the 1996 Draft, the Senators were pretty much done with Daigle and wanted to start getting some winning going...the Wings were just dominated in the 1995 Finals before that and Yzerman was thought to be wearing down a tiny bit by then and it wasn't sure if Scotty Bowman was going to be a good match for him...the idea of Daigle and the first overall pick (the Sens were also shopping that...it would become Chris Phillips) for a 31 year old Steve Yzerman didn't seem so far-fetched...but, obviously, ultimately didn't happen...
