Official 2014 Penn State Football Thread

Nice to see Penn State as a finalist for Holley, he would be a great addition with both PSU's DT's graduating.
Lincoln All-American defensive tackle Thomas Holley says he is down to Florida and Penn State, will decide "hopefully" by end of week.

O'Brien and Todd Graham among others are finalists for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year.

BOB must be the greatest salesman of all time. I cannot believe how he continues to get the recruits to come to PSU, don't get me wrong I love it.

I just wonder how long he will actually stay in Happy Valley

If you're a kid, and your main focus is making it to the NFL, the fact that he worked for a machine in New England, coached under Billy B, and "coached" Tom Brady, you can sell yourself. I don't think PSU ever lands Hackenburg if O'Brien is not the HC.

I think it's why Saban or Carroll could recruit well. The name of the school helps, sure, but if you're looking big picture, I would think you want to play for a coach who knows what it takes.

Fan Morning Show teased a local coach being discussed for the Texas job- I was afraid it was going to be O'B. It was Mike Tomlin and "discussed" was some blogger.

Any word on who is going to fill the void at LB coach? I know its not a vital coaching positon, but Vanderlinden has been a good recruiter.

Top 20 college jobs for recruiting

http://247sports.com/Article/Texas-Long ... all-165665" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Once the probation period is over and the recent scandal is a ways in the rear view mirror, the Nittany Lions could rank higher. First, they are the highest-profile program in a top talent-producing state (Pennsylvania) and they have a great tradition and excellent facilities. What makes this job from a recruiting standpoint even more attractive is its proximity to the state of Maryland and the D.C. area and New Jersey. That gives Penn State a blockbuster three-state region to pull talent from without having to go national.

Interesting you choose Carroll as an example, since he was ultimately responsible for recruiting violations that included improper gifts. Nick Saban, IMO, just hasn't been caught yet.

His ties to the NFL has an expiration date in terms of how long he can claim them. How many of his recruits go to the NFL will define his success in recruiting, not his former ties to NE.

That was an impressive tide turn, what looked to be a sure thing fifth set on the way, down 23-20 in the 4th, to turn Wisconsin's momentum and take the last five points. Coach Rose is a living legend - > 1000 wins and less than 200 losses. Wins the title with 9! players academic all-big 10 this season -- only 12 were eligible (have to be at least a second year at institution and carry > 3.0 cumulative GPA)

Side note... Even though NCAA President Mark Emmert was in the house, he did not make the trophy presentation. Oh, and they clinched the title just before midnight on the birthday of another (now deceased) Penn State legend. And PSU wrestling beat Iowa - annually their top competition - last night too, so banner day all around.

Thats a tough hit for the program. I'm interested to see who replaces him, if true.

Still not official. Recruits are texting that BOB has told them over phone today that he is staying.

Obviously he could be doing business as usual if he doesn't get the job or he the PSU board offers him a better contract.

If he leaves, BOB has turned the program from a disaster two years ago into one that has a lot of potential.

Yeah if he goes then good for him, he doesn't owe the school anything more. He saved the program from what many thought was worse than the death penalty, brought in a great core of talent, and would be leaving them in a much better situation than he originally found them. If he accepts the Texans job, congrats to him, that team is one good draft away from being a contender again.

Obviously I hope he stays and there are some reports out there that he is, but if he decides the NFL is what he wants then I'll wish him all the best.

I definitely want him to stay, but fully understand if he leaves. He's done such a great job the past few years, especially with everything that's been against him. He said himself though that he's a football coach and the pinnacle of his profession is NFL head coach. He had big shoes to fill and he went above and beyond what was expected/needed of him. If he does leave, the next guy is definitely going to have high expectations.

I completely agree.

Selfishly I want him to stay, mainly because of how good of a recruiter he is. It worries me that this recruiting class will be destroyed if he leaves.]

I wonder who would replace him?
