lol probably not, and there are a ton of "noxious" weeds growing in there. I'm very worried about toxic or noxious fumes from the burning of said plants. I wish I could though

Got the first quote on redoing my yard. I don't really buy it. No breakdown: $3,000 to strip, put down topsoil, reseed, cover with manure; $4,400 to strip and lay sod. About a 1250 sq ft. area.

that's a lot. i just paid $1,700 for pretty much the same service.

strip/roto-till my front yard
add top soil and level it out
sod it with kentucky bluegrass

it's somewhere between 1,000 and 1,250 sq feet.

just got the sod put down today. it's so pretty i don't even want to walk on it.

Wow. I would have jumped at sod for < $2,000.

As it stands, I broke my back doing a lot of lifting and leveling this past weekend. I did 2/3 of the yard for basically $18 (half a yard of top soil) and 10 hours of time.

The bare part, where the tree was removed this winter, is up next this weekend. For that, I'll probably need 6-8 yards of top soil to spread and will need more seed. Still, I'm looking at $300 to try to do it myself. $300 + ~18 hours vs. $3000-$4500....yeah, I'll at least try it myself.

I took close to 20 wheelbarrows full of wood chips out of the area. I have it down to the dirt, I believe. Basically everything that was covered by woodchips this winter and spring is now just bare ground. I'm going to fill the hole and level off just by getting some extra top soil.

Edit: they ground it down pretty far into the ground, so no, its not really there.

Get a lot more soil than you think you'll need. That stuff settles and then when it rains, settles some more.

The house I bought here in WI has about 1/3rd of an acre. Not very big, but the folks in the neighborhood are kind of nutty about their lawns and I didn't want to stick out like a sore thumb or anything. For the last 3 years or so I paid a lawn service to do my grass, but now that I have more stability I can take care of my own lawn care moving forward. I also know that I just don't care enough to deal with a push mower anymore. My yard has an overflow creek that runs through it so I have a small bridge on the property and I needed something that was narrow enough to get over it. I started looking for a Rear Engined Rider. They're about $999/new for the bottom of the line from every brand, so I went in a different direction:



Picked this little guy up for $600, delivered. It's at least 25 years old but as with a lot of John Deere stuff this has a bit of a following. I found a forum with some guys that buy these from scrappers and restore them. It has a 12.5hp Kawasaki motor, new starter, new battery, new fuel lines, and even has the manual. It's pretty unique in that it's a RER w/with a twin 38" mower deck instead of a single 30" deck. Bought it from a small engine shop and other than some nicks on the paint you would think this thing was only a few years old. Very happy with my purchase.

Funny to see this thread bumped. I went out and finally was able to clean up the dog crap today. Man it was bad. Anyway I spread a layer of powdered lime over the entire yard and then some pine shavings to help the moisture. Next up fertilizer in a week and then a week after that I'll reseed. The dogs just absolutely ruin the yard in the winter time

I gave up on the backyard. Between the dogs and the pine trees not allowing enough sunlight, it was a lost cause.

Maybe by next weekend I'll finally see some grass. Supposed to be in the 40's all next week, but we still have at least 2 feet of snow on the lawn with 6'+ piles by the street and walks.

Yes, all the snow melted and I have a concentrated pile of dog crap at the bottom of the deck stairs. Yay.

In NC we have so many kinds of wildlife and bugs that the yard kind of kept itself clean in that regard. No idea what to do with it up here, if anything.

Yeah, I never clean up the dog ****. If nothing else, it just dries up within a day or two.

I just wish she would do her business anywhere else. It's either at the gate, or at the bottom of the stairs. The two most high traffic areas in the yard.

Oh well, at least it's outside.
