Re: LGP Golf Thread
yeah, my wife told me my birthday/anniversary/christmas present was to replace my entire bag. I got wedges for christmas this past year, a new putter for myself at the start of the season, so she's going to replace my irons and woods. I'm gonna stick with what I have now until the end of this year for sure.

the bio cells definitely flew a little better for me. not sure why, but they just all around felt better, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for sales on those.Letang Is The Truth wrote:the cobra amp cell irons are on sale on woot fairly often

Re: LGP Golf Thread
how much are we talking about these irons in terms of price? I need new clubs eventually. Been using the same since I started golfing ~8 years ago.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I won't buy new clubs until I'm competent with the ones I have. My irons are probably 10-12 year old Ping something or other. Until I'm consistently under a 100 I'll keep blaming the golfer and not the clubs. I hope to one day be skilled enough that the tech matters, as I could probably do as well with a baseball bat.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I used to shoot above 100 before I started using real irons.
Actually, now that I think of it, the first time I broke 100, I wasn't even using my clubs. They were the aforementioned rental set in Hilton Head. I had been using a crappy Golden Bear set I bought at Dick's because I outgrew the old ones I had. I outgrew those ones, too (the irons were short), and my game started "improving".
It may not even be that the tech was better (it probably played a small part), but the clubs I used "fit" my swing much better than the old ones did. I was able to be more consistent with them.
You never know til you try.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
That's one of the biggest reasons that I've waited so long to actually get an up to date set of irons. I wanted to get better with what I've got and then consider updating. I've hit some of my friend's clubs (all of which were bought in the past 5 years and are all from titleist, calloway, taylormade) and they all are way easier to hit than what I have. They're mostly more forgiving, and get a little more distance than my current clubs. Also it depends on the clubs, some fit your golf swing better than others. The cobra bio cells really felt awesome, so that's kind of why I was looking for them.

Dustin Johnson taking a leave of absence from the PGA Tour, including the Ryder Cup. I've heard speculation about both crack and cocaine, so who knows. Sad story.

These problems go much further back than the Paulina Era. Guy's been a mess for a while and it's a giant waste of talent if he can't get himself right.

Its a real "chicken and the egg" situation. Did Paulina bring the cocaine or did the cocaine bring Paulina?Orlando Penguin wrote:These problems go much further back than the Paulina Era. Guy's been a mess for a while and it's a giant waste of talent if he can't get himself right.

Would appear to be the latter since she came along at the beginning of 2013 and he was doing this stuff long before that.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Can anyone recommend any good courses in the NYC metro area? I'll be heading up there towards the end of September and am looking to play. It'll be on a Friday so getting a tee time shouldn't be too too difficult.
I'm leaning right now toward making a run at Bethpage. I'm not quite good/confident enough to take a run at the Black course so I might just go for the Red, as I've heard some great things about it. I'm open to suggestions though if anyone likes another place in the area.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
There are two courses in the Bronx, Pelham Bay and Split Rock, that are right next to each other. I played at Pelham Bay and it was ok but it was overly expensive. Sounds like you are on Long Island but there are also a few courses near Newark (I live in Jersey City). There are also a few public courses in every burrough that isn't Manhattan (http://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/golf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).Staggy wrote:Can anyone recommend any good courses in the NYC metro area? I do really want to play at Bethpage though.

I'll be surprised if he makes the cut.
I kind of like the Rory/Sergio battle the last few weekends. Wanna see if that continues.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I would love to see Rory continue his dominance. The game needs a superstar. He's not American and he hasn't been dominating consistently since he first got on the tour like Tiger, but the golf world needs people like him, Bubba, Fowler, etc to play well and keep young players interested in golf.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
so apparently Bubba Watson has been a real a-hole this week.
example a:
Padraig Harrington did this during a practice round:

Apparently it was a long drive contest during the practice round and Padraig had a little fun and did the Gilmore swing. Bubba pulled out a 3 iron (if you're familiar with Bubba's play, he'd never do that during the actual tourny) and said:
"I’m here to win a championship. I’m not here to goof around,” Watson said. “I’m there to play golf, not to hit it far. I’ve got to practice. I’ve never been to the course. I don’t need to worry about a long drive on the 10th hole.”
example b:

I think he needs to calm down and remember to enjoy himself out there. Getting awfully full of himself, or at least that's the way it seems.Bubba Watson now telling his caddie not to tell on-course commentators what club he’s hitting. Incredible.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I used to like Bubba, but he's struck me as more and more of a D-bag ever since he won his first major. He's going to hit driver on that hole during the tournament, just extraordinarily childish of him to stomp up, use his 3 iron, and then stomp down the fairway like a baby.
