It's a tough one. Definitely putt on the practice green, as the greens play fairly fast. Lot of elevation change as well.Twisted Wrister wrote:Anyone play Olde Stonewall? My work outing is there tomorrow and looking for tips.

Morning 4-ball
Watson/Simpson vs. Rose/Stenson -- Picking USA...Watson/Simpson had decent success together at Medinah and Webb is only on this team because Captain Watson liked his stats from Medinah.
Fowler/Walker vs Kaymer/Bjorn -- Picking PUSH...Kinda think USA has an edge here because I'm not sold on Bjorn. He's kind of the wildcard in this matchup. So I'll throw my hands up on it and go with the higher-odds payout.
Spieth/Reed vs Gallacher/Poulter -- Picking EURO...Interesting luck of the draw for 2 rookies to be going up against the combo platter of the hometown boy and the stalwart. Haven't been impressed with the way Spieth & Reed have played the last few months so favoring the Euros.
Phil/Keegan vs. Sergio/Rory -- Picking EURO...WOW, this was a thunderbolt going thru the crowd when this got announced. I hope Phil is plenty rested after his WD in Denver because this could have the possibility of getting ugly quick.
Enjoy the matches...that is, if you're awake to see them.

I think the Rose/Stenson pairing will win, the middle two American groups take care of business, then Rory and Sergio stomp Phil and Keegan. Hopefully I'll be able to find a stream at work.

Thanks for the breakdown OP....I love the Ryder Cup, and absolutely hate that it has to be on so damned early. I guess it could be worse and I could be on the west coast.
Have to agree with Staggy, I like Rose and Stenson in that matchup.

(shameless plug)
You can always download the Golf Live Extra!! But if you don't have a phone capable of that, I would think that firstrowsports.eu may have a stream available or maybe one of the combo of BBC/Sky Sports.

I worked and then slept thru the alternate shot portion (damn 1:30am wakeup calls). Looks as if the US side did a lot of sleeping too. Didn't understand how Spieth & Reed can blast the competition and then go have a seat. Furyk/Kuchar/Zach/Mahan gave us nothing, though Rose & Stenson are turning into a real juggernaut.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Saturday Morning Pairings:
Bubba/Kuchar vs. Rose/Stenson -- Pick EURO -- Rose/Stenson have played 31 holes so far and have lost just 3 of them, never trailing in a match. Bubba is coming off a match where neither he nor Webb won a hole and Kuchar didn't exactly light it up with Zach in the foursomes.
Furyk/Mahan vs. Donaldson/Westwood -- Pick EURO -- Bad US pairing here with a guy who has a very mediocre RC record (Furyk) and a guy who outside of the Barclays win has been largely invisible (Mahan). I never trust Westwood's putting in a big spot (hence why he's never won a major) but he and Donaldson seemed to mesh well in foursomes.
Reed/Spieth vs. Bjorn/Kaymer -- Pick USA -- See if the rookies can continue their barrage. They became the first rookie duo since 1959 to win their first RC match by such a big score. After getting 3 up after 4 on Walker/Fowler, Bjorn/Kaymer won 1 hole the rest of the way.
Walker/Fowler vs. McIlroy/Poulter -- Pick EURO -- If the US can win this one, it's going to send a huge jolt thru the team because these are the 2 Euro trophies that everyone wants on the wall and US has a chance to get both of them in the same match!
Phil/Keegan sit as does Sergio. Probably for the best for all 3 of them as Phil/Keegan lost a lot of steam after that comeback in four-ball. Euro is strong enough that Sergio can sit a session. Had they not gotten the halve late, you could have equated Rory/Sergio with Tiger/Phil in 2004.

The only one I disagree with is I think Walker and Fowler will pick up a win, and Furyk Mahan has a chance to halve the match.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
It may be too late for this bit of insight but I was saying the same thing a few weeks ago. Choosing Simpson and Mahan was too much of a "well these guys have been here before so they'll be good" choice and not enough about who was playing the best at the time. I realize Mahan won the week before but that was what, his second top 10 in 4 months? And then the same type of choice was made this afternoon when Watson decided to sit our best pairing and play the wily vets. It seems like there's too much overthinking here, just play the best guys.

Who would have been your choices instead of Simpson and Mahan? Dufner? Snedeker? D. Johnson?

It's a good point. At the time of the captain's picks, the only person on the board that wasn't picked that had a case was Kirk. Had the picks waited until after the Tour Championship, I think it's safe to say that Webb would have been off and Horschel would have been on and possibly Kirk would have been on there too. Dufner couldn't get picked because of his neck. DJ wasn't getting picked because of his ahem, "leave of absence". Snedeker was about as good a pick as Simpson. The depth just isn't there this year as far as younger talent making a run for the team. But hey, every team has had a Vaughn Taylor, Jeff Overton, Brett Wetterich type on it. I don't think this team has that because everyone on the roster is of a good pedigree. But like I often say about the NCAA Tournament when it's a mediocre year -- they have to put 68 teams in that bracket. This year, Watson had to pick 3 guys.

Completely agree, benching Reed and Spieth was an utter head-scratcher. They gut-punched the immortal Ian Poulter and company, clearly have a ton of momentum...meh.
The Mahan/Simpson pairing might be the most uninspired pairing ever.
