decent morning for the Americans. Got back to within a point. Really need some magic from the foursomes.

I'm not sure what his RC record is. But in such a momentum filled, high stakes event.. I'm sure it sucks. If he has a lead on a Sunday there's no safer bet than going against him.shafnutz05 wrote:When it comes to Furyk, "let it ride" is not always the best option

Just remember last ryder cup, Europe was dead going into the last day (10-6), and boom, they pull out the win. It's all about tomorrow.

We don't have the horses to get 8 1/2 out of a possible 12 points this year. I think we're lucky if the US gets any more than 5.count2infinity wrote:Just remember last ryder cup, Europe was dead going into the last day (10-6), and boom, they pull out the win. It's all about tomorrow.

geesh... it's almost like the Americans are trying to lip out 4 foot putts. I've seen 4 or 5 the past hour.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Just a very uninspiring team from Day 1. No Tiger, no DJ, no Dufner. If those 3 guys are 100% then we're in a lot better shape. We don't necessarily win but we also don't fall flat on our faces during the alternate shot matches (0-6-2...zoinks). Was very impressed with Patrick Reed's performance other than the shushing the crowd. I hate seeing that no matter what the sport.

In the same theme, I played horribly this morning. Couldn't hit the ball at all.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
First time I've ever gone golfing for the purposes of networking today. Should be a good time as the weather looks like it's going to be nice. 2 grad students and 10 people from various chemical companies. We were asked for our scoring average and I should have said I was in the 80-90 range, but I put 90-100 because I'll likely be nervous. I'd imagine after the first couple holes the nerves will calm down and I'll be good to go.

Hope they sold beer that early to help take the edge off for ya.
As much as I've done it, I've never had an issue with my play during a networking situation. I chalk that up to having played high school athletics in front of crowds as well as the officiating I do now in front of a bunch of people I don't know. The only thing that I have to put way on the back burner is the occasional club slam or 4-letter word that leaks out after a 3-putt or a horribly hooked shot.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Turns out I was the best player there. Wasn't bad at all (except for 1 or 2 bad shots... both on the first couple holes actually). My team came in 2nd, shot even par, and about 70% of those shots were mine. Who would have thought scientists would be bad at golf.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
Just because you can calculate exactly how far a 48-degree wedge swung at 75 MPH at an arcing angle thru a left-to-right 10 MPH breeze in a 70% humid atmosphere doesn't mean you can actually pull it off!! Scrambles are a ton of fun...because you can suck on 3 straight shots but you can save the team by making the putt.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
lol, like I said, They were awful. And there were no big prizes or anything like a normal scramble, it was pretty much strictly for networking. Our team had 2 bogeys and 2 birdies. The two birdies I did single-handed. Usually in a scramble I'm playing with people approximately my skill level, usually better (one dude I play with is just about a scratch golfer). So we are usually in the mid teens as far as under par.

Dan Jenkins writes a funny article about Tiger:

Tiger reacts with stupidity:

Tiger was overboard, and Jenkins wasn't funny.
El Tigre should have had let Jenkins have the gimme, nobody would have noticed.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I think it was about seven years ago that I tipped my father off about fantasy golf. I've heard far more about his teams over the years than I ever wanted to, but it's cool that he likes it so much.
So I was pretty amused to hear that a.) He convinced my mother to create a team this year and b.) she's handily beating him so far.

Re: LGP Golf Thread
I don't think he's ever coming back. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in the past few years because he was constantly injured, but all I heard leading up to this weekend was he was feeling better than ever. He said it was the first time in a long time he can fully swing. Then he puts up these terrible first two rounds. Nah, he's done.
