I've got my eye on a Savage 11 Hog Hunter in .308Win. .223 works with hogs but is a touch small, and the .338Win magazine holds one less round than the other two.

I think it'd be fun to keep it with iron sights and dial it in for about 50 yards. I probably won't hunt wild boar more than a handful of times but it'd be a nice rifle for shooting at the range. Save my fancy optics for the .300WM. The Savage supposedly has a nice heavy barrel which I like a lot.

I kind of want a lever action for the novelty, but they're just so archaic I don't really want the hassle. Maybe I'll find one at a gun show or something and, uhh, pull the trigger.
Mossberg has a "tactical" lever in 30-30 that has an adjustable stock, rails and fiberoptic sights. That should be plenty to take down anything but those mutant hogzillas in Texas and Arkansas.

No, I KNOW it's pretty accurate.

During a recent neighborhood watch meeting, I learned we were about the only house without firearms. 20 houses, and I am the only Yankee carpetbagger that didn't own small arms.

I think there are much better options than an M&P15 honestly. I have a DPMS and I'd put it up against one any day. My buddy just bought a Sig516 and it is slick but also cost about 2x as much.
Right, I'm a total SIG guy, but I'm looking for just a cheap range shooter and the M&P 15 Sport for sub 700 is too nice of a deal to walk away from given the decent reviews.

Read a week or so ago that S&W's stock price plunged due to a slowdown in sales, particularly a slowdown in the AR market. Hey S&W, how about you switch capacity to make more of them revolver thingies? I had a stock watch on a Model 67 on Gallery of Guns, and in the 10 minutes between getting the email and clicking the link, they all sold out.

I think the problem is you have all the idiots buying in bulk and reselling online. The market needs to reset and nobody is giving it at chance.

I have five .22 handguns and two .22 rifles, and I would like to buy more. The rimfire shortage makes me want to tear my hair out. I never thought I would see the day when .22 isn't available. [Pulls up pants to armpits] Why, back when I was in college I remember when you could get bricks of .22 on sale for 12 bucks.

Palmetto state armory had 5.56 boxes of 20, for 6 bucks. I was going to buy about 10... limit 1. What kind of crock Is that. I get the limit but make it like 5 or something worth actually paying shipping

This questions is probably going to be too specific to jurisdiction to be answered, but if you have a CCW from one state and move to a state with reciprocity can you hold that permit to expiration or do you have to get a new one in the new state to carry?

You can hold it, I believe.. and it's still valid.

That's why a lot of people have Florida CCWs, they're reciprocal in the most states (IIRC)

It's going to depend on the state. IIRC, the Superior Court (in a case poorly litigated by the plaintiff, who is apparently a total *******) recently held that a PA resident can only carry concealed in PA with a PA permit. So if you move to PA you would need a PA permit to legally carry, even if you have an out-of-state permit that is fully valid here.

I'm looking at NC to IN. I don't mind getting a CCW there if I do fully establish residency. I'll have to do the research. I'm not going apartment hunting in South Bend without carrying so it's an important consideration. I guess it won't matter since I wouldn't have an address there for a while.

I should stop worrying about it until I get the job offer. I just can't stop turning stuff over in my mind.

Governor OKs temporary gun seizures from people judged to be a danger
Four months after a disturbed man killed six UC Santa Barbara students and wounded 13 others, Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed legislation allowing the temporary seizure of guns from people determined by the courts to be a threat to themselves or others.

The Isla Vista massacre in May occurred even though the family of Elliot Rodger had sought help because of concerns about his strange behavior before the shootings.

The legislation approved by the governor allows law enforcement officers or family members to ask a court for a restraining order against a person believed to be a threat, barring his or her possession of firearms for 21 days.
The restraining order can be granted in absentia before the restrained party can present evidence.

There are plenty of reasons I don't live in California. This is just another entry on a long list.

Seems this violates at least two amendments. Wishful thinking the ACLU at least fights for due process?

Yeah. I assume it will be struck down. As soon as someone feels like standing up for those accused of being a danger. Tough political stance to take.

Dirty laundry on view in the gun world. A few years back the 80-something Gaston Glock dumped his wife and married his 31-year-old "nurse." His ex-wife Helga is now suing him, all the Glock companies, and several other people and companies. She claims Gaston perpetuated a massive scheme to launder and hide and millions of dollars from her and give Gaston 100% control of the Glock companies. She's seeking at least $500 million:

Just found out that CA closed the single-shot loophole for the good gun list. This makes me sad, as I was thinking of getting an XDm.

I've heard some more reporting on this since it was signed into law. Structurally, it's based on existing laws that allow issuance of a restraining order in a domestic abuse case. The order can be issued based on unilateral testimony by the person seeking the order. Those laws have been challenged and successfully defended in court for many years now. Then again, those laws weren't dealing with the confiscation of private property or the exercise of a Constitutionally recognized right.

My CCW firearms instructor was really butthurt about the domestic violence unilateral testimony. He gave a long impassioned speech about it at the training. His ex-wife did that on the advisement of her attorney in order to make the divorce go more in her favor. By having his guns taken like that it also happened to take his career. She later recanted, I imagine since if he has no career collecting alimony would be a hassle.

Is your instructor a listener of the Michael Smerconish Program on SiriusXM? When they were discussing this measure on the show, a caller from NC called in with that exact story.

There are criminal penalties in the restraining order and gun laws for filing claims to harass the subject, or if you are knowingly providing false information. There has not been much abuse of the restraining order law, but time will tell how the gun law plays out.
