Truth be told, I think the appointment isn't going to do the D's any favors in the midterms.

It's a silly thing for people like us to even engage on here. We're all pretty equally uninformed about what the qualities are for a government position like that. The complaints you're making is essentially playing the "heads I win, tails you lose" game.

Not really, the guy is a career bureaucrat with no medical background. The only place he may help with is negotiating the behind the scenes stuff, as he knows how the game is played in DC. For the most part he's nothing more than a political hack. He has no medical background so there's legitimate questions to be raised about whether anything he does will be adequate, where's he going to get his advice as to how to respond to any emergency? Will any response be adequate? How much if, if any at all, will politics come into any decisions he makes? These are all legitimate questions when it comes to him.

This is a managerial position to coordinate efforts of federal agencies. The guy has years of managerial experience, clerked for a supreme court justice, worked on foreign affairs. This is just another "It's Obama so I don't like it" reaction.

Sure I could. Obama has been too conservative on many of the issues but given the alternative I can live with it. And I didn't carp about every decision Bush made just because he's a republican.

Doctor went to help in Africa and was possibly contagious when he was on the subway, went bowling and took an uber ride home.

But no one ever exchanges fluids on a NY subway or maybe sweats in a bowling ball or rental shoes. So no worries.

Though I would argue, there are far worse things you can contract at bowling allies and a subway...

though it would be wise for the cdc to place a mandatory quarantine on anyone that was known to have been around an ebola patient, example healthcare personnel.
